Well if you're going in for a casual or a mid range gaming system, a couple of suggestions.

1. The x48 Chipset is probably an overkill for your requirements, but the G31 is a bit underpowered. Since I'm going to suggest an AMD card later, I would suggest go with P35 or P45 chipset rather. P35 has the advantage of being really cheap, yet it overclocks and performs solid. The only problem is you don't get proper crossfire, only x8 PCI-E 1.1 mode. So you lose on the upgradeability. Also, the G31 only has 2 RAM slots, something really low these days. Get a P45(If budget allows) because although it might also be having only x8 dual slots mode, it is PCI-E 2.0 and therefore, the bandwidth provided is same as PCI-E 1.1 x16, and therefore there'll be no bottlenecks.

If you're interested in going in for an AMD based system, you could opt to go for the Phenom 9950BE, along with a 790FX/GX platform based motherboard. I've heard some solid reviews for these products and now the 9950BE successfully overclocks to speeds around 3.4Ghz, thanks to ACC on the new motherboard platforms. They also provide Crossfire, so that's an added point. Intel one would be definitely the better platform overall but would be costlier too. Consider this if you're short on funds yet you want to go in for Crossfire. :)

2. The video card, not a tough answer nowadays, get a Radeon 4850 and stay happy, it has enough horsepower to run all new games, even Crysis Warhead, to run on the highest settings possible and on a decent sized monitor. In future when it becomes cheap you can add in another one. :)

3. Change the RAM to 800Mhz, and 2 GB as a bare minimum, that is a no brainer. ;)

Well I'm sorry but the options they offer are VERY limited, lmao they even don't have 2GB RAM in their listings! :p

I seriously suggest try somewhere else, the parts they are offering you are in no ways near to what I was thinking for your system. For example, the motherboard options are limited in to the very low end or very high end.

Sad to report that my MB got burnt by a lightening spike, it was replaced only last year September after the same thing happened, the bad thing is I to this day do not have a Surge Protector, however a tech advised that I should not just get a Surge, but an Automatic Volatge Regulator, so I will be getting one from Amazon.com, and once I have replaced my MB I hope this will never happen again, so for the time being I have to borrow online access, between 8 a.m and 6 p.m. :(
It was not a fancy MB, just 939 socket, ASUS ATX, 3 GB Ram, but it did its job and it is a lonely feeling to be without my PC :crying

My main browser is Firefox, but now there are some things I need Internet Explorer for, so I downloaded and installed it, but I can't find the launch icon! There's nothing in the Internet Explorer folder, no icon on the desktop and no icon in the Start list or All Programs either. Where the hell is it??

Yeuuuch, how can you stop that from happening, if it's possible at all?

Well from what a tech told me, a UPS with a AVR will do the job of stabilizing the voltage and giving out the appropriate out put needed by the PC.

As for your IE problem, it is not the first I have heard of it, will have to review and get back to you on this, last time I believe that I helped someone I had to go to hidden files or folders to get it done. But it is part of your Control Panel loaded Programs? If it is then it means that the folder is hidden.

Go to start Menu, and click on Run.
type iexplore and press enter.
See if internet explorer opens. If it does not, then you have not installed it correctly, and you should reinstall.

Thanks. Is there no way to get a shortcut for it back on the desktop?

Edit: It works. Much better than having to change my internet icon via the taskbar's properties all the time, at any rate. Thanks again!

Is it IE 6 or IE 7?

Abhas added 13 Minutes and 17 Seconds later...

Try this:
Go to the desktop, right click, and click on New>Shortcut.

In the window that opens, type this : C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
(assuming that your windows is installed in the C:\)
Press Next, and Press Finish.

This should create the Shortcut for Internet Explorer.
