Yeah, can't understand how I forgot MSE, thanks Jono! Installed it now, I'm sure it'll be better than many as it's supported by Microsoft.

Old anti-virus programs made by Microsoft haven't been too good, but MSE is one of the best, paid or free, and has received really good reviews everywhere.

I have Nod32 Antivirus 4 on my PC and MSE on the laptop. Both work like a charm. :)

i need help guys!

i think i have a trojan on my laptop. I ran a virus scan with AVG and it found trojan and malware and stuff, and it removed it. It was in the C:/windows/temp bit. thing is, it's like this trojan generic thing, and it keeps coming back. When on the internet it randomly opens up another tab, which avg closes as a threat. then it'll just blue screens. Keeps blue screening now when that's not happened before.
I sort of panicked and deleted all the stuff in the c:/windows/temp folder, but trojan keeps coming back. help please!

Have you run a boot-up scan? I'm not sure AVG has that. I remember using Avast, and it had a boot-time scanner which used to scan the computer before loading up windows. Give that a try, download and install avast (You'll have to uninstall AVG prior to installing), update it, and schedule a boot-time scan.

It probably created a hidden code file in your root drive that has instruction to boot the trojan as soon as you boot your computer. It may have also changed the registry entries.

Malwarebytes

Try downloading this software, it scans the PC for malwares and registry faults too, which Avast and AVG lack.

okay I downloaded and installed avast. Ran an intial scan with it (full scan). found 1 file, which I deleted. Had to restart computer for that to complete and it asked to me to run a boot scan which I did. The boot up scan found nothing. So i assumed it worked. But it just blue screened again!

Is your task manager working?

Yeh it is.

Okay ran malwarebytes and it found quite a few trojans etc, and I removed them. Had to restart for that to complete. So did that. First thing, the desktop isn't loading properly so I went on taskmanager, and ended explorer.exe and restarted it, so the desktop came up.

It blue screened again though. So I ran in safe mode and ran malwarebytes again, and it found 1 file this time. Removed it, restarted. Keeps blue screening, and finding more files. And the desktop isn't loading properly.

It might be worth giving Hijackthis a go, very powerful program so if it flags anything be sure its not important before it deletes it. I'd use Hijackthis and then use Malwarebytes before restarting.

If that does nothing I'd get Hijackthis' log and post it on one of those forums where people who are experts in trojan removal and the like lurk.

Have sorted my computer out a few times.

There are a number of programs that are a bootable linux cd and from there can run a scan of your computer, so that you're not booting into windows and doing it. Harder for viruses/other bad stuff to hide that way.

Can't remember any off the top of my head though

Finding a solution to get rid of this pain in the arse MBR rootkit. I'm about to try few stuff but I can welcome few suggestions. That thing got under ndis.sys and bugs the services.exe to 100%.

I wish i'd put the guys who made this thing into a BBQ and invite the tigers of india to a majestic feast.
