Solve your computer problem with the help of experts!

I am having a small doubt over here. I am having Win XP Sp3 as my OS. I dont have a separate Audio Card ( i.e having on-board audio itself).

I am not understanding whether, in my system, the checkbox Use only Default devices should be ticked or not ticked in the Audio Properties in the Control Panel....:rolleyes

Yea I'd only change settings like that if things weren't working.

Well, I've been facing a weird problem today. My screen suddenly crashes and I get a message "display driver has stopped responding and has recovered". It was crashing and getting back to normal but just now, I was playing cricket07 and it crashed and the computer restarted. I haven't faced this kind of error before. Any idea what is wrong?

Follow these steps and see if it works:

1. open up the device manager:
-in Vista: right click on my computer and on the left side it should say device manager and click on it to open.
-In XP: Control Pannel->systems->advanced settings->hardware tab->device manager.

2. Look for "display drivers" in the device manager.

3. When you find it then expand it and there you should see the name of the graphic card you have.

4. Right click on it and click "uninstall"

5. Ignore any warnings that pop up as they are just there to tell you what you are about to do.

6. after you uninstall it, click on the "scan for hardware changes" at the top of the window or simply right click anywhere on the empty place in the device manager and click "scan for hardware changes".

7. It will tell you that you have uninstalled the display driver and will eventually find the drivers for you and will ask you to install them again (just follow the process in the pop up window to install them)

8. Install the drivers by following their process and you are done!

Basically, you just reinstalled your graphic drivers :)

Tell me if this helped.

My LT has turned off two times now in one day suddenly. I think it is due to ever heating. But, it didn't seem to be too hot. Makes sense?

Don't take chances with the laptop lol. If it is turning off by itself and when you turn it back on, if it doesn't tell you that your laptop was shut down because the battery was low then it can be because of it overheating. I just paid the price of $125 for ignoring the heating of my own laptop which resulted in the unsoldering of the GPU from the motherboard and I had to replace the motherboard to get the laptop back up running. Open up the laptop and take out the heatsink which is the fan. Open up the fan by opening up the screws and clean all the dust that is in the fan. While your laptop is open, add some new thermal compound to the CPU and the GPU (you can figure out what they are by searching on google according to your laptop brand and model number). You can also buy the thermal compound for cheap from local stores. :cheers

when i try to open task manager o windows Xp it says that task manager is disabled by the admin  i am the admin and i didn't disable it :noway how to enable it?

@Sobi - Thanks for the help mate but I've already installed updated driver from Nvidia site and that solved my problem. :)

I just got home from Uni and found a weird problem with my PC here at home. No matter which theme i apply, the system is showing it with every effects turned off. I have checked the Visual Settings and checked that all the eye candy settings are checked. I have tried installing new themes by downloading from net but even they show up without any effects :(
I'm using windows 7 X64 Ultimate

Naah.. Even if something had turned aero off it wouldnt have resulted in turnign all effects off like this

It looks like the Windows classic theme imo.

Do you recognize all icons in the taskbar?

Yup i do recognize them. Coz i placed them there.

It looks like the Windows classic theme imo.

Yeah it does but it isnt. I have tried every theme but it stay just as it is.

Anyway this problem is old. Now i got a big problem.

I was playing Witcher 2 and all of a sudden game froze. Then came the cursed BSOD. It said something about ati driver. I retarted the PC and there were a number of artifacts even during Boot up. I removed my GPU from the motherboard and hooked the monitor to the motherboard socket and artifacts were gone. That means it is something to do with my GPU. But how is that possible. Heat is out of the question as i have a 3rd party Arctic dual slot cooler which gives 35 degree celsius in idle and a maximum of 47 C, That too when pushed to extreme by Crysis 2.
I dont think Wither 2 could push it that much. Even if that was heat, my GPU used to turn off automatically when it crosses the threshold temperature(when i didnt have that 3rd party cooler).
So can anyone elaborate something?:noway

Flinging hell, way to spoil the vacations :mad
