South Africa in Australia Nov-Dec 2012/13

Thrilling finish. Huge credit to South Africa for fighting back from that first day, but also to the Australians for maintaining their intensity in the field over such a long period - there were so many almost-chances that the last day made for viewing almost as compelling as the first.

Of course, Siddle and Faf were absolute gladiators at the death there, but we shouldn't forget all the great performances that went into that moment - Kallis on one leg, Smith's century, the great spells from Morkel that occasionally threatened to haul SA back into the match and of course the three centurions on the first day who set the whole thing in motion. What an epic.

So you want to replace Hilfenhaus too

Gary Putland,Jackson Bird,Alister McDermott,Starc are good :)

Pattinson will not play against Srilanka too anyone know when Cummins will get fit

He hasn't done much apart from taking Smith.

You gotta point there

I reckon that Johnson would of been useful. We needed some erratic bowling to give the Saffers to lose some concentration.

Well there are better bowlers available anyway we need to select 3 new bowlers so he might get a place in the playing XI

So combining all innings together

Aus: 1300 runs ish from 3 innings.
Saffers: 1000runs ish from 4 innings.

Also, Bloody Grahme Smith drew this match by scoring 100.

Would have been interesting if Tahir had to bat to save the Test, after his horrific match with the ball. Would he have hung on and redeemed himself, or would his confidence be so shot that he'd fall first ball?

Excellent stuff from du Plessis tho.

Still bitter about Du Plessis shouldering arms and getting smacked dead in front on 37. A few mm of half the ball outside leg should be disregarded when you just throw the pad in front :rolleyes

Wow, well done Saffers to save the match. Yesterday when they were about 50 for 4 I thought Australia will win this easy. But, Faf had other ideas. Great game. Loved how Faf wasn't worried about his 100 at all today.

Back in the first match, one of the aussie bowlers was also mm away from being inline but it was umpire's call.

So why wasn't this? So unfair

I know Mitchell Johnson has broken our hearts far too many times to forgive, but the idea of him and Starc both getting left-arm swing at the WACA is a tempting one, tbh. Just think: if Lyon can do this well without anyone creating rough, imagine how well he'd do with two left-armers in the side?

I'll be happy if Johnson plays. His record against the South Africans is excellent as well as his stats batting and bowling at the WACA. If the pitch is perfect for pace, then I would go with Starc, Johnson, Hilfenhaus and Siddle. If the pitch will support spin probably day 4 and 5 (even day 3) then I would go with Starc, Johnson, Siddle, Lyon.

The more footmarks for Lyon to aim for, the better. Lyon troubled the Saffers batting lineup and his "Jeff" ball was really troubling them.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. It's fair to say he wouldn't have done that if the laws allowed LBWs for deliveries pitching marginally outside leg.
