South Africa's tour of India - October/December 2015

Surely there must be a better, younger prospect though? Going from an ancient Harbhajan to Jadeja isn't exactly a huge upgrade: and surely it would be better to try out someone slightly younger.

Based on what I've seen of him which admittedly isn't a great deal outside the Test series last year he's a worse batsman and bowler than Ashwin, yet bats above him in the order for some reason... He's decent at ODI and T20 stuff sure, but I don't think he's at all good at Test level...
As amazing as it may seem to you Jadeja is one of only 8 men to have scored 3 FC triple hundreds. He has a shittiest technique for a man with that record no doubt about that but he's good for Indian pitches as a 5th bowling option. Also, he's picked up few wickets this domestic season so it worked in his favour but I strongly believe he is not a long term option. Overseas, India must look for some seam bowling allrounder like Rishi Dhawan or Hardik Pandya (he is still WIP) for spin bowling allrounder we have quite a few. Iqbal Abdulla, Deepak Hooda, Parvez Rasool, Sarfraz Khan to name a few. For seamers, Varun Aaron and Anureet Singh are two of the brightest prospects. I don't know what BCCI is doing with Kuldeep Yadav and Harmeet Singh, the two left arm spinners. They were touted as next lead spinners for India.

Its been a bat first and win series so far, India batting first, a good step.[DOUBLEPOST=1445501937][/DOUBLEPOST]You know about the whole Sena and Aleem Dar protest, had Sena protested against Vineet Kulkarni standing in the ODIs, they would have gotten a lot of goodwill :)

Wow remember Wasim Akram was supposd to go back. Its great seeing him in Chennai LIVE. A big middle finger to Sena like they deserved.

Bhuvi's performance in the first 10 overs is really worrying. He just doesn't take any wickets in the first 10 overs which is a concern because he is our strike bowler. Again, I can't see any swing in his bowling even though he says he hasn't lost his swing. His speed is around 140 which is very good but he has clearly lost the swing which was his main strength. If he can get his swing back with that kind of pace, he will be extremely handy bowler for India but until he rediscovers that swing, he will struggle. By bowling fast, he is also losing his line.

The thing is Jadeja seems like another domestic cricket bully who will perform well whenever he goes back to domestic cricket but as we have seen, finds it hard to convert those same stats in International cricket. He hasn't picked up a few wickets, he has absolutely dominated the matches he has played so far in domestic cricket. He has 30 wickets in 3 matches at an average of 9 and have scored 2 half centuries and a century in those 3 games. I don't think selectors were going to ignore those performances for too long. For overseas, I would definitely have Rishi Dhawan in the longer format as the bowling all-rounder as he is the best we have in ranji trophy currently. However, as you mentioned, I really liked the look of Hardik Pandya and won't mind seeing him in the shorter formats. He has the ability to clear the ropes but yes he is still very raw. The spinning all-rounders that you mentioned, none of them are good enough to be called "spin bowling allrounder". Iqbal Abdulla and Parvez Rasool are decent bowlers but their batting is not good enough for International standard. Sarfaraz Khan and Deepak Hooda are good batsmen but I am not convinced by their bowling. So Jadeja and Akshar are the best options right now as spin bowling all-rounders. I do agree about Kuldeep Yadav, he looks a very good bowler and his bowling style is unique. So he should be in India's long term spin bowling plan. I haven't watched Harmeet Singh too much so can't comment about him.

Is the cricinfo commentary true ? Is Bhajji actually bowling well?

Starting to look dangerous for India again

The ODIs are clearly the side show, but it would still be great to get an India win here. However looking ahead to the tests, this is the first real turning wicket in the series, and India have SA in trouble without Ashwin. If he is also put into the equation things look good for India in the tests, where the pitches will do even more.

^ After not striking 2 balls earlier when he should have struck :)

Having seen the replay that LBW Ravi gave was out too. Well Done S Ravi
