South Africa's tour of India - October/December 2015

Dhoni was massively predictable with his changes this game and it cost us. India did not have even a single good pacer to pick. We went with three military medium guys today (Bhuvi, Mohit and Aravind). What grouse does Dhoni have against guys who bowl pace? There was no variety in pace at all. And all of them were horrible today. Apart from Ashwin (who was brilliant and the almost won the match for India single handedly), everyone else was way below par.

A match we should have won easily.... Axar is a waste of space! Seriously, the guy looks so incapable at this level. No problem if we lose out on his so-called batting capability. We need Mishra or someone else (not Harbhajan) in the team.

I dont know what good Mohit Sharma is doing for the team. I cant remember any match where he performed well. And why cant we have Varun Aaron or Umesh Yadav in the team. They are the only fast bowlers India has got so far

Oh we won! Nice... How much longer till the actual cricket starts?

Apparently, if you concede 10 r.p.o bowling 125 kph, it costs lower than if you concede the same bowling 140 kph. The slower pace guys offer more control, you know. With Axar, Mohit, Arvind and Bhuvi as the lineup, 250 is`nt safe in 20 overs. Its a horrible lineup which has no wicket-taking ability. God bless Dhoni. The scary part is that the guys outside the XI are Binny, Harbhajan and Mishra. You can`t have an entire bowling lineup in any format which can at best only try and defend. There is no way you can win games that way in any format.

Remember how we got on a roll in the World Cup? We bowled out sides in every single game. That lineup had Yadav and Shami who were both bowling quick during the tournament along with Ashwin who was superb. I feel we will do a lot better in the tests than in the limited overs format against SA eventhough the rankings suggest otherwise. Yadav, Shami, Aaron might all be prone to conceding runs but so are these others. At least in case of these guys, they bowl their share of wicket-taking deliveries. My attack would be Yadav/Aaron,Shami, Mohit, Ashwin and Mishra/Rishi Dawan based upon the conditions.

The one selection that is now getting annoying is Rayude ahead of Rahane. I mean just what is the point of Rayudu ahead of Rahane.

There are probably 30 batsmen as good as Rayudu playing domestic cricket right now. Rahane should get into the side ahead of Rayudu any day.

T20s its fine, do whatever the hell you want, but Rahane had better be ahead of Rayudu in the ODI line up.

Depends on whether you care about the ODIs. I feel the T20Is are just a trial board for the two sides. The ODIs will be really good as well. I like the order in which the series are scheduled here. For a long series, this is how it should be. T20s to get the sides warmed up followed by the two long forms with tests at the end.

Again, its down to the perception that Rahane does`nt score quick enough for Indian conditions. These are purely IPL-based selections. Rahane, more than anyone else is a victim of perceptions and reminds me of Rahul Dravid`s early days where he was considered an ODI dud. The guy later did everything that an ODI cricketer ever could for India. Rahane has more ability than Rayudu and can actually take on good attacks. Rayudu, sadly never looks at ease against any level of bowling. Its not like Rahane cannot score quickly either. He scores quickly even in tests. Remember his knock against Johnson, Harris and Co at the MCG and his 70-odd against SA in the WC. Both were of the highest quality and scored at a quick pace. I don`t think Rayudu can do that.

Dhoni and his perceptions.

These Trolls ...:p

I think the channels are a bit too enthusiastic about this series. The T20 yesterday was broadcast live on 6 channels in India. 6 channels !!

Bhuvi is class yesterday just wasnt his day ...and i wouldn't get too worked up over bilateral t20s they are testing grounds fro guys like aravind to see if they can replicate their FC success.

Though certainly agree over Rahane over rayudu...rayudu has never come good against top quality attacks. Only prob is i havnt seen rahane get tickign from ball one especially if he comes in the middle order in middle overs. His best positon is opening in limited overs.

I would play Rahane and have him open the innings. Rohit for the flashy style of strokeplay that he possesses, can bat anywhere in the order. Rahane due to his technical strokeplay and the fact that he is not a very big hitter, should bat at the top. Rahane and Dhawan should open, and Rohit should bat at No.5, where he generally bats for Mumbai Indians in IPL.

If Rohit is demoted then he losses his consistency which he has set being a opener. In the other hand, Rahane can replace Dhawan in case of form. Yadav can do better then Mohit and Mishra can do the same when he replaces Axar.

Aravind should be given a chance as he is amateur player and has no experience in international competition even though he picked a wicket in his debut match which the other pacers struggled to do in such a bowling condition.
