Just woke up to see Tahir has bowled 4 overs and Bavuma is opening (I presume). Man South Africa is laughable some times. Piedt has bowled well (I think) but holy flip what is Amla thinking not bowling our best spinner? I really hope he is injured. Bavuma shouldnt be in the side and the fact he is opening shows how dumb SA were to bring two part time openers...

A fighting knock by Rahane here. All the talk of his place being under the scrutiny is crap. The guy deserves some space, especially after him arguably being our best batsman away. 4 bad test innings at home on poor batting wickets and his place suddenly was being spoken of as being under threat.

Tahir has been going at 5 runs an over while no one else is going at 4. He has been bowling way too many full tosses. Can't blame amla for not bowling him if keeps getting smacked everytime he comes on in this game.

Yea now he isnt bowling well but hes had such a good series you have to bowl him. He will go at 5 but he will also pick up wickets...

The first day in the IND vs SA Tests. I think India lost couple of wickets more than what they would have liked.

Mohali - 229 for 12
Bangalore - 294 for 10
Nagpur - 226 for 12
Delhi - 231 for 7

FTR India is unbeaten at Delhi but if my memory serves me right, India has fielded first in every single test during their streak. Peidt has been impressive so far and I cannot think enough how good Abbott is. As I have always mentioned Abbott should be an automatic selection for South Africa but their is refusing to let go the quota policy which is benefiting a poorer bowler Philander.

I don't know about all the games, I am very sure that when India beat Pakistan, the one where Kumble took all 10 wickets, Pakistan were batting last. Remember the celebrations when Akram popped an easy one to short leg, and India winning. Now there was no follow on, thus if Pakistan were batting 4th innings, which they were, then India had to have batted first. So thats one clear exception to what you said.

However apart from that one game, you may well be right.

I think Rahane deserves his runs, for he is a fine batsman. It was getting to a point where people were baffled about what was happening with him. I would not say his place in the side was in question, but his form most definitely was.

I think this Rohit experiment has to end now. Enough is enough. Rahul is waiting in the wings, bring Rahul in perhaps have him open and drop Shikhar Dhawan lower down the order.

As for SA, they really had India nailed to the wall at one point, but once again the India lower order has come to the rescue. I think India are good for about 20 more runs, not more. Especially with the new ball likely to be taken first up.

Now SA have to do their business in their first innings. They will be batting last and conditions will be tough. So if SA apply themselves, and we all know they are determined to, and get a lead of around 100 runs, then we have a match on. If they finish about level with India and in that case it becomes a 1 innings match, then India will have the advantage. as batting is only going to get tougher from 3rd innings onwards.

Should have done better with the tail.Not had luck in that last session, ashwin was clearly out and amla's drop is hurting. Hopefully we can wrap up the last 3 quickly tomorrow morning. Tahir's poor bowling was a big issue meant we were effectively down to 3 bowlers.

Rahane is quality but before this inning, he was averaging under 8 in India. Even though he only played 4 tests, that is still a not a good stat for a talented middle order batsmen like him. He really needed this inning and I am glad it came at a time when India needed it the most.

I actually think Jadeja has batted decently in this series. He has played spinners alright and I think that is because of the 4 or 5 ranji trophy matches that he has played just before the series.

I hear Rahane was brilliant yesterday. Did not get to watch his innings due to the timing, but it really must have been great considering the situation he had to bat in. Saw Kohli's dismissal though. Was very unfortunate and a freak dismissal. He had nailed that sweep shot.

Any comments on the pitch btw ? Is it "poor" as well ?

I think the general rule is we wait till South Africa bats on it. If they score lower than India, the pitch is poor and vice-versa.

^ This. I have a lot of respect for the SA side, but honestly I don't think they will get a ton of runs here either, and then on we will go with the pitch being poor.
