South Africa's tour of India - October/December 2015

Flipping quality shot Faf. You prove to everyone that you are Test quality.

Please Vilas I beg of you show your quality...

Honestly we need new captains. As great the players Amla and de Villiers are they arent very good tacticians, sadly we don't have any strong leaders around, there is one who isnt too bad but he wont make it as he opens and thats our strongest part of the line up...

You had an opener as captain for more than a decade. Feel it's unfair to say AB can't captain when he hasn't done so in a test. And what on earth can a captain do when there's just one batsman holding a candle to the Indians.

Can't blame the pitch here, Ab and the indian batsman have shown its fine. Just terrible application and shot selections. The rest of the batting order seems have their minds scrambled from the low scores previously.

Will seriously start to consider whether duminy justifies his spot, is his ability to bowl enough to keep a spot when only averaging 35? or should van zyl be given a chance in his natural spot or even rilee rossouw?

It's just one series they didn't perform well. Not fair to change the captain. I am sure they will bounce back in the next series they play. They are #1 team for a reason. This is just a rough patch.

I have no access to net ... making do with mobile ... hard to post stuff ... With auto correct threatening to make a perfectly innocent post among the most obscene ever posted on this forum :)

First off a brilliant knock by Rahane and let's not forget Ashwin's contribution.

84/7 then !! How long before people start having a go at the wicket :)

I think South Africa fans will finally see that their batsman are not good enough against spin ... With pitch no longer an excuse for their batsmen to hide behind. What du Plesis did today was inexcusable at test level. The same thing in Magor people would have blamed on the pitch ... not today ... I expect some will give it a go anyway no doubt ... but we all know the truth now.

The pitch was a convenient excuse to hide behind do far and ignore the alarmingly poor play of the batsmen ... but today they stand exposed completely. Bavum paying back to a ball you should come on the front to ... Amla cutting a ball too full to cut and only du Plesis can explain how he suddenly time travelled into a T20 game. Forget being beaten by spin ... They are first being beaten by the flight and the length.

Agarkar got the name bomb duck after his display in Australia ... I think Vilas deserves to have a similar nickname given how he has performed here.

Anyway the biggest take away is though that now India SA have a series and hopefully the Gandhi Mandela series will go on to be an iconic regular event in cricket.

No doubt when India your SA the pitches will be the fastest and greenest they have been in a while ... but honestly we would have it no other way !!

While I agree to some extent, Amla is way out of his depth as a captain tactically. Not as a leader. SA have a dearth of batting quality and from what I've seen Van Zyl and Bavuma aren't the answers, Roussow might be. Can't understand the big deal about Villas. De Kock is younger, a better keeper and a better batsman.

South Africans have proved us right that there wasn't a problem with pitch. They played some shitty cricket.
Points in our side, 250+ runs scored and a century too.

Blame the pitch for this 84/7 too.:)

There are enough talented batsman not openers though and that is a big issue with the gap smith has left. Van Zyl will much better when he can bat where he is comfortable( has some technical issues he needs to sort vs spin), rossouw and theunis de bruyn are also players to be considered.

I agree some changes has to be made, but I don't agree that captaincy should be given to someone else. Whom else to give captaincy to? Only Amla and ABD can captain the test side. As far as I see, when it comes to captaining, I don't see much difference between the two. Yes, Amla made some poor captaincy decision in this series, but that shouldn't strip him off the captaincy title.
They should drop Vilas and also make change in opening batsmen. They should bring in a good opener.

Ab captains the ODI side and isnt very good with field placings and bowling changes. I know we had an opener that was sarcasm, I would love to see Cook play and not captain but offer his advice cause right now we are in India and refuse to give Tahir, the best spinner in the country, any sort of chance to gain some momentum.

Exactly, Rossouw is quality and we have many others like De Bruyn who are better then Bavuma, Van Zyl top scored in the domestic game and is solid but as we all know is not an opener. I have said it a thousand times de Kock is not a test quality batsmen yet and add to the fact he struggles against spin he could easily become the next Jacques Rudolph. Vilas is a fill in as de Kock learns to play defensively.

@PokerAce little unfair on Vilas, he hasnt been the worst batsmen in the side and add the pressure of knowing everyone thinks you shouldnt be there is tough.

Does anyone else want to confirm this is not a bad pitch? Jee as soon as there is a good pitch everyone loves to abuse the fact we called other pitches poor...

@Markkkkk - It's not just about Vilas' batting. His keeping has been outright pathetic. I find nothing wrong with de Kock. There's no 'right age' for a sportsman. If you're saying his defense is worse than Vilas, that's a massive exaggeration. I think we've all seen QDK bat enough to know he will at least be equal.

AB is a terrible ODI captain but that doesn't mean he will be a terrible test captain.

Neither ab or amla are captains in my book. Still feel of the 3 captains we have Faf is the best tacticly.

I totally disagree with QDK not being good enough defensively at the very least he will do better then villas. I do not see anything that villas offers above him. Neither as keeper or batsman + qdk has the age advantage.
