Spin Bowling Impression and questions..

Hello chaps,

I started a pro career yesterday as a leggie (actually first time I've played the game) and played a 4-day match with reasonable results, but I've a few questions perhaps someone can answer:

1. I gather I am rotating the LAM too early, hence it either resetting or the needle gradually slipping back out of the green zone and resulting in poor 'revs'. But sometimes the needle 'sticks' in the zone and I don't know why. Only happens bowling my most used delivery, the leg break. Is that due to better timing of the rotations or a function of skill points increasing?

2. What difference do the skill points do? I note that you get +3 for every wicket and seems like +1 for going past the edge or bowling a tight over (so it seems), but what effect do the points make as they increase? Is it just more revolutions or does it effect the 'dials' in some way (make the green zone larger?)

3. Anyone have any tips on using the slider and topspinner deliveries (line, length etc)? I generally just vary leg breaks in line and length and do the same with drift. When I get the revolutions right I can bowl something Warne like even at this stage in career (think my first wicket was that, round the wicket, huge leg break, outside leg stump and hit off). But whilst the slider has beaten the bat before, the topspinner and googly just get tonked.

Having played every cricket game since the Graham Gooch one in 1993, I can happily say this is the most enjoyable one I've played.

1. Just rotate smoothly, I start immediately and go slow. I don't know what the sticking thing is but it's not feature

2. 3 for a wicket 1 for each over in your chosen speciality delivery
Effects rpm.. You can see the stats in between matches(without any explanation)

3. It's unlikely you got massive turn ona leg break because it doesn't turn much at 3000 rpm
More likely was a drift ball.
Slider/toppie needs to be worked in with some turning deliveries to trick the batsman
Use good length at the stumps for a decent chance at lbw

Ah Ok. I might try another (less used) controller and see if the LAS is stiffer in some way. I'm a little 'heavy thumbed' naturally, so I'm probably doing it too hard.

The manual seems surprisingly light on info about Career mode. Evidently I shall be learning as much as my character as I play it.

Pretty sure it was leg break on account of the +3 reward specifically mentioning it. Still, I get more wickets using drift. I shall experiment with the topspinner. Perhaps round the wicket and bowling leg to off with it might induce an edge (though the AI fielders seem to drop any close catches).

It's covered in the bowling guide thread. Essentially you want to get 3 full rotations of the LAS in, with the third rotation ending when you push the RAS up to release the ball. Thus you will need to experiment to get the timing down, since bowler skil will effect how vigorously the meter will fill.

Yes I have been reading that thread (before and after posting my initial questions).

Ok, so do you mean that as my career player improves (assuming he does!) then the effort needed to impart revs to a delivery (each having its own skill level obviously) becomes easier? In which case instead of frantic thumb-twiddling to get a meagre 1000 revs, it will be easier to 'rip it'?

From what I have observed thus far, yes that would be correct. But the maximum revs will increase too, so in order to hit the top end you'll probably still have to frantically twiddle the stick a tad. But hitting 1500rpm on your main delivery will become a piece of cake - which is a good benchmark.

There is never a requirement for frantic twiddling

Three even rotations for maximum rpm.. Never more, never fast. Less rotation = less rpm if you want it.

See previous for what skills do.

Actually yes I'll agree with that. To hit the top end of the revs that your bowler is capable of, a slightly faster rotation started slightly later may be required if his skill in that delivery is still poor. The important thing remains to be to ensure that the 3rd rotation ends precisely as you pull the RAS up to deliver the ball.

Well quite. You don't want to be putting max revs on every delivery any more than bowling a different type every ball. I just need to get better at the mechanics in order to decide how much I want to put on it. At the moment there's not much work on the ball consistently. I fear I am becoming Ian Salisbury.

How are people getting wickets on pro mode? (not career player but matches)?

Im finding spinners a bit toothless compared with seamers, getting a few edges on green pitches and some varied dismissals with them, but spinners always go for 1-40 off 10 or similar.

I have restarted my career a number of times for various reasons, but I generally tend to get 5 wickets an innings quite easily - in fact I've been doing so from game 1. There's the odd match I scrape a couple for a lot of runs, but I put that down to my captain putting me on when the ball just isnt turning consistently.

Seriously, the number of times I've been put on to face the openers after just 10 overs on a batting track is ridiculous.

not career player :)

Surely it's still useful info though? I mean damn, you start your career with zero skills! In matches you play as accomplished players already! :)

I don't find career player at all real, or similar to matches though, which are the closest ive seen to perfectly simulated cricket.. Seems the difficulty levels are completely different? Thanks though :)

How to bowl with 1000 RPM+? I rarely bowl with spinners but I want to know how to get that much RPM because max I got 350 RPM when I bowled last time.
