Spot Fixing Scandal Thread: The Legend Continues

Tribunal toothless. All three should have gotten life bans like cronje, malik and azhar.

Complete and utter bullshitt, should have all gotten life bans.

I can't wait till the criminal proceedings start, maybe at least they will get some jail time.

Absolutely agree. All the three have got off easy, they deserve nothing less than a life ban.

Hmm. I don't know. I think a 5 year ban is fair enough. We'll have to wait till they post the results of their investigation.

I agree that both Asif and Butt should have gotten more than a (theoretical) 5 year ban but I have to sympathise with Amir. Coming in to a corrupted national side at the age obviously has a huge effect on a young players decisions. He's been misguided and fair enough he is over 18 but I still think they should have been more lenient towards him (although I believe they were bound by the code which states a min5year ban?). He is a great talent and 5 years away from cricket will have a big impact on him. He's going to miss out on; the most important years of development, some major events and ultimately may never regain a place in the international side. Sad day for cricket :/

For Butt and Asif its practically a life-ban, not quite happy with the decision they gave for Amir, he might as well get it reduced to 3 or perhaps 2 years after appealing to ICC. The Tribunal also indicated they wanted to reduce but ICC code didn't allow. That way they will surely not set a right example for youngsters coming into cricket.

Anyhow i hope PCB never considers them again for national selection. They are quite good even without Amir.

I think it means that Butt can't play any kind of cricket for first 5 years(2 for Asif) and for the rest 5 they can but can't be considered for National team.

No, none of them can play for 5 years, then the suspended sentences kick in, if during those time frames (which will be Oct (I think they were suspended from then) 2015-2020 for Butt, 2015-2017 for Asif) they then go corrupt again, the suspended sentences will become activated.

I see nothing stating that the ban applies for only international cricket.

I was hoping for longer bans, but I don't think the code actually allows for it. I don't think it's fair to compare it to the Cronje affair, as that was for several offences, some of which are far worse than fixing no-balls, though I still believe it should be life ban for any cricketer found guilty of spot-fixing/match-fixing.

Those three clowns have no one to blame but themselves. I wish someone comes up with evidence against Akmal brothers and anyone else who has been involved in this heinous crime against Cricket and million of passionate followers of our beloved game.

Aamir will be back but he needs to pray that until then Pakistan will not able to find any other Aamir.
I hope they don't find anyone like him. Do you guys still expect these criminals to represent your country?

^I think he meant that we will find someone of his ability not necessarily his character. You were being sarcastic right :yes

I was more so replying to 'Amir will be back' thing. I wish he along with other two never ever play Cricket.

Aamer I can forgive. Young people do foolish things, and he was probably pressured into it. We won't know the full story, but I could give him the benefit of the doubt. After all, he bowled the no-balls in between a spell of 6/23 (or something along those lines) and ripped the English batting apart. He clearly wanted to win the game and do his best. Maybe Butt had to remind (threaten?) him before the ball in particular to make sure he did it. He could have been hesitant.

Butt is scum tho. Asif caught with drugs, now this, that's enough to see him out of cricket too. Even if they were unwitting mistakes, 2 stupid mistakes like that and you deserve to be kicked out.

Akmals feel dodgy too. Just can't support Pak while they're playing. And Wahab Riaz. It feels wrong that they're still out there.

PCB should try and root out this corruption completely. Amir and Asif were a lot more valuable to the team than the Akmals, yet we won without the two A's. PCB needs to have their own investigation into the whole matter and ensure no scum plays for Pakistan again.

If the PCB cared that much about Pakistani cricket, this wouldn't have happened in the first place.

Feel for Aamir but I guess this is kinda unfortunate but inevitable. The others I dont really care about. Ah well then I hope it gets reduced to about 2-3 years or something.
