Spot Fixing Scandal Thread: The Legend Continues

Still a couple of inches, but you're right, not the same distance over as Aamir's. Still fairly conclusive evidence with the fact they knew when it'd be bowled.

Having an explanation better than "I don't know" doesn't work if it's a false statement (a lot of evidence to suggest so), which is an illegal offence in a court of law and most other courts.

Of course it remains to be seen the results of this, so we'll just have to wait and see.

How do you prove it? Several ways. For starters, the no-balls tied in with when Mazheer told the NOTW bloke it would. How can that not be proof that the bowlers knew of it?

You could also look at the fact that no-balls of that size are incredibly irregular, it's not like bowlers just run in and bowl. They mark their run ups before the match and practice pre-match several times. They have no defence.

The reason why Butt only had the money was for security reasons, more chance of people finding out if 3 people have large sums of money.

It's not rocket science.

Given this is Pakistan cricket, I'm expecting it to blow out in a whole new and exciting way.

fair enough, though they can say that for those precise balls butt asked them to go over the line so that they could attack the batsman and bowl irregular lengths to unsettle them.

Wasim and Waqar used to bowl no balls by the dozens yet their economy rate and number of wickets are for all to see. In those times the penalties were quite low (one extra run and ball even in ODIs) so they could get away with it. But they might have used that as a tactic to unsettle the batsman.

Fairness is (among other things) about admitting and fixing mistakes, not compounding them.

Punishing someone without the relevant standard of proof is simply more corruption. It is easily as corrupt as anything these players are alleged to have done.

Sadly Samuels was used as a warning to any others. I don't think there was any concrete evidence against him other then that he might have met a bookie so the WICB decided to use him as an example. It was unfortunate for Samuels.

You can hardly expect those standards from the PCB.

From what I can see, there was video evidence of Samuels passing on match-related information to a bookie. Personally I think that's a trivial offence - even if he received money for it - but apparently it carries a mandatory two-year ban under the ICC code of conduct. The evidence against him appears to have been sound. Anyway his ban is over and he's back playing.

Lorgat is acting as if he already knows the decision (and that it's a life time ban on all 3 players)

He's been acting like this quite a while I feel, even before the trial started.

Would be enormously funny if all 3 got off, just to see his reaction. And then I'd like them banned

He's just saying what everyone knows anyway - those 3 have guilt written all over them ever since the NOTW story broke out.

Except maybe Asif, his expressions since then have been of one who just doesn't care.

Good news that they will release all the details. Expecting nothing short of a life ban for all 3 of these swine

so the details are being released two weeks before the WC? that's another reason to have done it earlier, it will just prove a total distraction.

still, at least they didn't kill anyone...
