3rd Test Match against England

Zoysa out, Vaas in

I won the toss and elected to Bowl first

Early on and the start was good, Marcus Trescothick going to Vaas, then Pietersen going to Malinga. And then in cam the spinners, Weerakoon got Vaughan as England start to struggle at 82-3 at lunch. Strauss is next to go for 59 as we attempt to cut through the middle order. Another Double wicket maiden for Weerakoon leaves England on 127-7. But we couldn't finish them off before tea as they reach 146-9 but in the first over after Lunch it ends. Sajeewa Weerakoon with an innings total of 5-50 and Muralitharan got 3-48 respectively.

A dredful start as Kumar Sangakkara goes for 3 runs but we don't lose anymore wickets fortunatly before the end, so we stand at 47-1 at the end of day one, 99 runs behind. Tharanga unfortunatly goes soon into the morning session for 45 as he gets caught in front of leg stump by Jones. Again Mahela Jayawardene goes before reaching his 50 as he gets 46 respectively. Sanath Jayasuriya goes for a dredful 5 as it is not looking good. Although we reach lunch 130-4, 16 runs behind. Samaraweera goes before completing his 50 for 39 runs. As we begin to crumble. Until tea comes, We reach 211-8 with Arnold still in. A great score of 72 by Arnold comes to an end when the 47 run partnership as Murali comes in and then goes after making 10 runs. Arnold quit obvoisuly the pick of the batsmen with his 72 respectively.

Only 1 over to face till the end of Day Two and England get off to a good start on 4-0 and are 133 runs behind. Marcus Trescothick again goes early as England gain control, at Lunch they have reached 107-2. A few quick qickets help to regain England to 158-5 at they reach 194-5 at tea time. We end up wrapping them up very easily for 223 as Sajeewa Weerakoon completes his 10fer with a great 5fer to add to his collection, some amazing bowling. After scoreing 223 they needed to try and defend 86 runs, but we were optomistic.

Kumar Sangakkara again doesn't reach double figures as we struggle towards the end of Day Three. Tharanga then falls very early in the morning session for 24 leaving Mahela Jayawardene and Samaraweera in as both openers are gone. They easily guide us home to maintain a first series win as we win by a comfortable 8 wicket margin. Weerakoon easily deserved his Man of the Match award with his two 5fers equalling his 10fer which made us win the game. Great bowling once again by the Spin Bowlers.

One Day Friendly against Essex

Unchanged Team

I won the toss and Elected to bowl first

After 5 overs, Essex were steamrolling on 20-0 until 5.1 overs as Malinga got Flower for 8(12) A very quick start as after 25 overs ,halfway through the match, they were scoring at 5.1 an over but they had already lost 5 wickets. As Vaas got Napier it opens up all the tailenders with Bopara being the last recognised batsmen still in, until he goes to Malinga with the score poised on 170-7 of 37 overs. No more wickets until the final over in which Samaraweera got it as Essex made 221-8. The tailenders added quite alot to the total.

A poor but quick start to our campaign as Tharanga got balled for 4(10) but that Brings in our number 3 ,Kumar Sangakkara, who is a quick score which helps us after 10 overs on 56-1 needing over 4.1 an over, then Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar fall quick to leave us 115-3 needing 107 runs off the last 25 overs. Most definetly shot of the day, Was Samaraweera's Massive Leg Side Six which went straight out of the stadium but he then went out the next ball for 46(45) Mahela Jayawardene then easily glided us home as he got 59* and Arnold 30*. Some batting brilliance helped us in our win but there is definetly some improvement there for the bowling, or maybe it was just a bad day.
