The SCI FI Channel has officially renewed its hit series Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis for another season, the network has just announced. It will be SG-1's tenth season and fifth year on SCI FI, bringing it even with its five years on Showtime. Atlantis will enter its third year.
The network has ordered 20 episodes of each series, in keeping with the current and previous seasons.
Season Ten will make Stargate SG-1
the longest-running science fiction series in U.S. television history, surpassing the nine years and 202 episodes of The X-Files. The series will air its remarkable 200th episode early in Season Ten.
The network has not yet confirmed which regular cast members from the show will return next season, as contract negotiations are likely still pending. No changes in the regular casts are currently anticipated.
The first half of SG-1's ninth season has averaged 2.4 million viewers per week, according to SCI FI. The second half of Season Nine and Season Two will kick off in January on SCI FI.
