Stephen Fleming Announces Retirement

Because he didn't win games doesn't mean he wasn't a brilliant captain.
Ponting isn't an especially good captain, but he gets away with it alot because he is in charge of such a magnificent side. Steven Fleming was an absolutely sensational captain, held back by the fact he comes from a country with a small population without a great love of cricket, which inevitably means that the standard they produce will be quite low.

OK. He was a good captain.....in principal:rolleyes:

I fail to see why you don't understand that you can't be a fantastic captain unless you're in a fantastic, winning side. Seriously. Was Ian Botham a poor cricketer because he played in a poor side? Was Alan Border a poor captain because he captained a side that didn't win for a long time? Was Brian Lara a poor player because the Windies weren't a good side in the mid to late 90s and 00s?

This thread is about S.Flemings retirement. Although statistically he is an average captain.
Botham...great player,poor captain.
Border....great player,average captain.
Lara.......great batsman,poor captain.

Ya.and thats why he got out for duck in match against Aus.He is disappointed.Anyway these cricketer have bright future ahead of them so no worries. They won't do coaching or commentary for small amount of money. They gonna play in IPL..:clap

Thats probably not the way he thinks and im pretty sure that isnt why he got dropped. He hasn't been on his best form. So would have wanted to make a good score to prove he can still bat.

Just because he didnt win alot of games doesnt make him bad captain!!

Right well, you wanted some stats as Fleming as Captain;

Code:

BE Congdon 1972-1975 17 1 7 0 9 0.14 5.88 41.17

The captains had to have 15 matches to qualify. So out of all of New Zealands captains Fleming is second best out of all of them. If you dont think Fleming is a good captain then you clearly dont know much about cricket.

Fleming has had the most games as captain so to come away with a record like that especially when you dont have the same resources.

Surely an average captain wins as many games as they lose.:(

A poor captain loses more games than they win and, by definition,

A good captain wins more games than they lose.

Now then can anyone post any of Flemings win per games stats..and therefore prove how good/bad/indifferent a captain he is/was?

Winning and losing games depends entirely on the whole side. You could put a monkey in charge of Australia and they'd win most of their games. They're just a side so full of brilliance Ponting doesn't need to be a good captain, and he really isn't. He's a very average captain.

Those stats show that Flemming is better than average by the fact of one game win. Thank you for that. I now know that Flemmings win per game percentage is JUST ABOVE AVERAGE...and therefore a "good" captain.

But I still dont rate him.
