Cricinfo - Steve Bucknor to retire from umpiring

Steve Bucknor, the West Indian umpire, has decided to retire from umpiring at the international level in March. The third Test between South Africa and Australia in Cape Town from March 19 to 23 will be his last Test while the two upcoming ODIs between West Indies and England in Barbados on March 27 and 29 will be his last one-day international assignments.
It makes me want to burst out into song.

A great of the game and will be sadly missed. After Dickie, Shep and now Bucknor, the age of the really experienced umpire is over.

One of the great umpires of the modern age. To keep going as long as he did and get consistently better and better as he did was phenomenal. His peak years were undoubtedly 2006-2008.

A true legend.

He was a good umpire at his peak but the last few years he really has dipped and taken down his rep.

should have done that a while ago

best of luck to him!

nice thread title =D i thought it was gona be about Mahela making 240 :D

One of the greatest Umpires ever to umpire in a cricket match sadly leaves us. A true legend says goodbye.

YES! :happy

Hardly a fiting title for someone who has dedicated so much of their life to cricket.

But regardless of the thread title, it has been a good run as an elite Umpire by him and it's sad too see him go.

Sad to see him go, iss arguably the 3rd best umpire at the moment behind Taufel and Aleem Dar. Not really a fitting thread title.

Well past his prime. He had actually initially decided to retire in March 2007 (I remember doing some research on him after a couple of poor series) but instead decided to extend his stay. I'm sure he will remember that as one of the poorer decisions he's made in cricket.

It's a shame he has to go like this, though. He was one of the greatest umpires in the early 2000's but didn't know when to call it quits.
