47.1 - Four. Lee rocks to the back foot and drives it beating the short mid wicket fielder for four. The fast outfied beats the man at long on who desperately runs to stop the ball. 16 needed off 17 balls.
47.2 - ONE RUN. A good yorker by Harmison but Lee dances down the wicket and pushes through mid off for a single.
47.3 - NO RUN. Harmison bowls a good off cutter. Warne hits it straight off the back foot to short covers fielder. If the ball had beat that fielder it was a definite four as there was no long off employed.
47.4 - OUT. A terrific yorker from Harmison crashes on the off stump and Warne heads back home after scoring a good 36(42 balls, 3 fours). Needless shot really.
47.5 - TWO RUNS. A good ball pitching short of good length again but this time Gillespie pushes it through the vacant mid off region and picks up comfortable two.
47.6 - ONE RUN. That particular shot brings fielding change. Mid off is in place and mid on pushed to long on. 3 men guarding the boundary on the leg with one man in short mid wicket. Good ball again, great length but Gillespie pushes to back foot and beats the fielder at short mid wicket for a single.
Australia now needs 12 runs from two overs with 2 wickets to spare.
Murali is into the attack so far he figures are 9-0-38-3. Can he do the magic for Fleming yet again, this one over will pretty much decide this thriller.
48.1 - ONE RUN. Attempted yorker, Gillespie pushes the ball through vacant mid on for a single.
48.2 - RUN OUT. Good length ball pitching outside off, Lee hits it straight to mid off and Gillespie backs up a bit too much without noticing the mid off wasnt too deep. The fielder at mid off returns the ball to the bowler and Gillespie is short of crease by 3 yeards.
48.3 - ONE RUN. Murali bowls this ball a bit short and Lee goes to the back foot and turns the ball towards deep sq leg for a single.
48.4 - ONE RUN. Murali pitches this one up on the middle and leg. McGrath glances the ball off the front foot to vacant deep sq leg for a single.
48.5 - TWO RUNS. Lucky the edge not going to any fielder there. Murali bowled outside off stump and Lee tried to cover drive it gets thick edge the ball goes through the point region where there are no fielders at all and the fielder from extra covers picks it up. A comfortable 2 runs. The last ball off Murali's over left, can he get his team the much needed wicket.
48.6 - ONE RUN. Hits it through vacant off side for a single.
Harmison is called up by Fleming to bowl the last over of this enthralling series. 6 runs needed off the last over with one wicket in hand.
49.1 - ONE RUN. Ball bowled middle and leg Lee goes on the back foot and glances it through to short fine leg. Huge appeal for run out but ruled out. Five balls and 5 runs to go.
49.2 - NO RUN, BEATEN. Ball pitching outside the off stump, McGrath tries to play an off drive off the back foot and is beaten. Now Australia require 5 runs off the last 4 balls.
49.3 - FOUR. McGrath rocks on to the back foot and hits through the vacant mid off for four. That was some shot, now Australia nor World XI cannot lose. Its a tie.
49.4 - ONE RUN and Aussies win the game...........................
Ball pitched on good length, McGrath edges it through the off side and scampers for a single. Its all over for World XI and an unbelievable win for Australia in the end.
Oh a big sorry the game is a bloody tie. Only the score card says its a win for Aussie, when the last run was taken I thought it was a legitimate run when I saw the mourning World XI and thumping Bret Lee but infact the last run was a run out. I think the game is being shown as won by Australia, why? I dont really know at this point of time. There is some funny stuff happening here. When I went to take the snapshot of the scorecard, all the 3 batsmen are marked run out not sure which ones out and which ones not. There is lot of confusion here at MCG, the crowd is celebrating but now the red light from the third umpire has come up. The crowd have gone beserk not knowing whats happenning here. Maybe its time to look into the rule book for the tourney.
I think I now know why Australia is regarded to have won the game because they had better run rate than the World XI. Australia faced 49.4 overs to score the required runs where as World XI took 49.5 overs. The scorecard though says 49.3 overs for Australia, it probably got bugged not knowing how to calculate who is the winner. Why cannot it simply rule it as tied when both teams were bowled out in less than 50 overs.
I have to say this was one terrific game and it was so close I even got down to write down Cricinfo style the last few overs. In the end I was jumping in joy, could have had champange if I had some. After the celebration sunk in, went to take the snapshots and then noticed that the team was bowled out. It was a bloody tie but the Aussie players were celebrating, Ponting (i.e myself)hardly had any clue who had won this one and went into a state of shock.
