Story Super Challenge 2004

A thriller in prospect at The Oval

After 25 overs there is absolutely nothing to choose between the two teams. Compared to World XI's 158 for 5 at the half way stage Australia have reached, well 156 for 5.
Australia made a positive start to the chase. Gilchrist and Hayden picked the gaps with ease. At 24 Harmison provided the breakthrough removing the dangerous looking Gilchrist as he edged to first slip. Ponting and Hayden kept up the charge but Hayden tried to clear the boundry and was caught at long on. Martin looked in superb form right from start and this pair added some quick runs as runrate almost touched 7. Fleming brought back Bond for his 2nd spell and the decision paid off as Sangakkara took a good catch diving to his left. Lehmann and Martin added more useful runs at a quick rate. Martin raced to his 50 and at that stage Aussies looked on track for a win. but he was bowled soon after. Kumble got one to turn sharply and beat Martin's sweep. Looking at the way pitch was taking some turn, Fleming gave Tendulkar a go and he responded by producing a beauty to beat Symonds.
though Aussies are still favorites at this stage, another wicket and World XI would be in with a good chance to square this series. With 124 still needed from 150 balls, this one is not over yet.

Cheers S, PC score predicted 181 all out when I autoplayed the full inning for Australia. Very well bowled to have us 5 down I would say. 5 wickets in hand with another 5 wickets to go though doesnt look very daunting one or two early wickets and it becomes really tough to hold on to wickets. My prediction is if Australia can hang on to about 10 overs without losing wickets while scoring around 3-4 rpo they can hopefully win it. A wicket or two in the next 10 overs then I think its curtains for Aussies. Do you want me to continue using Tendulkar and Kumble for a while?

World XI on the verge of victory, Australia looking for another miracle from Harvey

After having started confidently after the 25 overs break Australia have lost all their main batsmen by the end of 35 overs. Lehmann and Clarke started well against the spin attack of Kumble and Tendulkar planning to score 40 runs in the 10 overs without losing any wickets. Just when both the spinners were showing no signs of claiming a wicket Kumble produced a big turner which took off and middle stump while Lehmann failed to connect a sq cut. Right in the next over Kallis bowled one of those unplayable yorkers that found enough space under Clarke's bat to castle the middle and leg stump. By the end of 35 overs Australia have reached 196/7 needing another 84 runs @ 5.6 rpo in 15 overs with 3 wickets in hand. Much depends on Harvey if Australia will even have to make a bid to reach the target. Can he produce the magic he did in the first ODI? Time will tell, stay tuned.

Breaking news

World XI have suffered a setback after Shane Bond was ruled out of the Super Challenge 2004 due to another stress fracture in his back. Decision on a replacement is expected before the crucial 3rd odi at cape town.

That was a very close one S, it set my heart racing for a while for sure.

Australia go with the same lineup as in the 2nd ODI. Pretty much everyone has chipped in and performed to the expectations.

Another thriller fellas:cool: . Who can tell the outcome of the 3rd match with the teams so evenly matched?

Maybe for the third match we should only bowl the entire 50 overs to make sure its not too predictable. Let me know if you have any other ideas S.

Thats good then, whenever you have time let me know we can toss.
