Super Challenge 2004, Match 2: World XI v Australia at The Oval
World XI made a solid start but Australians have kept themselves in the game by picking crucial wickets. At the 25 overs stage World XI have raced to 158 but also lost 5 wickets.
Flintoff was out early caught by McGrath at long off. Fleming was positive right from the start and added 40 for the 2nd wicket. Gillespie struck for Australia as Fleming played across the line and was bowled. Shoaib Akhtar promoted to no 4 did hit some quick runs. Highlight of his inning was a big six over long on off Gillespie. But Gillespie got his revenge removing Akhtar with a fast yorker. By this time Sachin was begining to take charge and hit some superb front foot shots. Warne was welcomed to the crease with a hit over midoff and a trade mark back foot cover drive in the same over. Kallis struggled early on but found some touch as the partnership added 74. But just when the partnership was looking dangerous, Warne removed Sachin for a majestic 54. Then Kallis had a slight lapse in concentration and was bowled by Harvey.
With the last recognized pair of Dravid and Lara at the crease, the inning is very much in balance. Aussies will feel that another wicket would get them in control while Fleming must be hoping for a big partnerhsip from these two. We have some exciting cricket in prospect..
