Venues for Super Challenge 2004

Game 1: Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados
Game 2: The Oval, London
Game 3: Newlands, Cape Town
Game 4: Eden Gardens, Kolkata (D/N)
Game 5: Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne (D/N)

This is an online game and I will be playing for Australia while Shailesh will front up for World XI.

Surely he will have more than just one issue selecting the World XI. I am done with selecting the Australia squad and following is the link to the news out on crickinfo;) (Thanks m_vaughan for the idea:cool: )

Australia's squad for Super challenge series 2004 announced

This is a 25 over bowling & batting online game. For instance I as Australia may choose to bat the first 25 overs and bowl the last 25 overs of World XI inning. It's my call for the first time what part of the inning I will bowl and what part of the inning I will bat. Shailesh will get similar chance in the second game and so forth.

Nice article- it'll be interesting to see how this turns out :)

Cheers Brad, its a bit fancy but if it works well then we have paved way for a different kind of online game where we will not just need to blast away but also will get us thinking in terms of field settings, bowling et al. I best hope it works.

Yeah, it's good to see something different- might even get some people interested in playing online again :)

I think it would be better if the each of the other 9 test playing nations (8 if you do not include zimbabwe) has one player in the side. Also not more than 2 players should be selected from one country.

This wouldnt be bad team

Sachin Tendulkar (India)
Stephen Fleming (NZ)
Brian Lara (WI)
Jacques Kallis (RSA)
Alok Kapali (Bang)
Inzamam-ul-Haq (PAK)
Andrew Flintoff (Eng)
Shaun Pollock (RSA)
Heath Streak (Zim)
Stephen Harmison (Eng)
Muttiah Muralitharan (SL)

Freddi, Shailesh has the opportunity to pick 16 players for the World XI.

Now that you have mentioned your World XI, I will write down my choice too (put a little pressure on our good old mate Shailesh to pick some of our choice players too) :

1. Stephen Fleming (Captain)
2. Chris Cairns
3. Sachin Tendulkar
4. Sehwag
5. R.Dravid
6. A.Kumble
7. Murali
8. Sangakkara
9. Shoaib Akthar
10. Inzi
11. Shaun Pollock
12. J.Kallis
13. B.Lara
14. Harmison
15. Flintoff
16. Sami

Not a single Bangladesh player will fit in my World XI mate. Look at some of the players like Vaughan or Laxman missing out from the line up. I could simply not put a player for the sake of choosing a player from every country when you take on the best. Now that the Zimboks team is depleted there is not one player who will warrant a selection in a strong team like the one above. If Streak or A.Flower were still playing they could command a place though.

ICC names Planet Cricket as official sponsor

Merseyside, England: ICC has named internet cricket forum and leading patch, mod makers Planet Cricket as the official sponsor for Super Challenge 2004.
Speaking from his hq in Merseyside, PC chief Ste Cooper said it was a great honor to be associated with such major event. PC has been a major force since BLC days and they will do everything to make this event a memorable one.
Also from his home in Birmingham, another PC official Zimrahil commented "It is a dream come true."

Pitch preparation underway
July 15, 2004
Kensington Oval, Bridgetown

Preparation of pitch is underway at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown for the first of the 5 match ODI series Super Challenge 2004 between the current number one Australia and the World XI. Lara will no doubt enjoy batting on this strip considering he scored the world record 400 in the series against England. Surely he will have a tip or more to share for his team mates how to bat on this pitch. Speculations are rife the pitch will be a death bed for faster bowlers and will assist the spinners. In all probability the pitch will be a dry one and chances are the spinners will have a better say. The outfield is bare and looks to be a 300 runs wicket. The groundsmen were seen working hard last evening while both the contending teams took to practice in the background.
