Team Pasty Muncher takes on the world[rFactor & GTR2]

The co-driver is being lazy South African tart. And yes, you might recognise that Aston. :p

I'll just tell Mr Piazza-Musso some Englishman that sits at home eating pasties wants me to stop racing and play rFactor then :p

I see Kev's paintjobs are becoming SROL legends, even John is using one!

I'm delighted to announce I will be replacing the trusty SEAT Leon, with the brand spanking new Vauxhall Vectra for the SROL BTCC, which starts tomorrow. Due to the late arrival of the Vectra, the car may or may not appear in full livery due to the teams official painter enjoying his bank holiday. ;)

Here is the Vectra is action:

TPM Vectra ready and raring to go!!

Team Pasty Muncher officially unveiled the Vauxhall Vectra it will be campaigning during the 2008 SROL British Touring Car Championship this morning at the teams local circuit, Castle Combe. The team would like to thank the official painter for putting up with the management requesting this car so late in the day and badgering them on their day off!

The team now faces a mad dash along the M4 for 58 miles, then a sprint down the M25 and finally a gentle jog along the M3 to get to Brands Hatch

I wouldn't go down the M3 to get to Brands if I were you, you'll end up in Southampton, its the M20 you want :p

Also nobody in history has ever managed much more than a crawl around the M25!

Good start for TPM at Brands Hatch

Team Pasty Muncher's attack on the SROL BTCC got off to a good start yesterday on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit with two second place finishes. Having qualified second in qualifying as well, it bodes well for a good season for the new Vectra.

Race one was fairly straight forward, having kept second off the line, I never looked forward nor back and would cross the line four seconds behind the winner and around nine clear of third.

Race two was more of a challenge, with the top ten positions getting reversed to form the grid. I made a solid start and made up a place on a slow starting SEAT Leon, however, race one winner, Jeffrey Ruskus made the most of his RWD BMW to launch past me, so I remained 9th! I made up a couple of spots in turn two (Druids), including getting back past Ruskus. Over the next six or seven laps I worked my way through the pack fairly easily to be in second...behind Ruskus after he took advantage of me getting held up slightly behind one of the slower cars. After I got into second again it was similar to race one, fairly lonely and it stayed that way until the end.

I honestly can't see a win happening on pure speed. The guy who won both races (and took pole) is one of the best drivers around and has taken part in numerous high class competitions. Might be a case of trying to keep the number two on my car....

Silverstone all set for 2007 finale

Silverstone will play host to the final rounds of the 2007 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship this weekend. Mathematically five drivers can still win the championship, but VX Racing's Fabrizio Giovanardi goes in as the hot favourite as he holds a 20 point advantage over 20 year-old Stephen Bailey. Giovanardi has enjoyed a supurb end of season run that has seen him win four of the last six races and finish third in each of the other two. Bailey on the other hand has had abit of a struggle in the last six. Although he took pole and finished third in race one at Mondello Park, he wouldn't score points in the final two races in Ireland, and only picked up 13 points at Brands Hatch, compared to the 46 of Giovanardi.

This weekend could well see Vauxhall claim the Teams championship and the Manufacturers championship, as well as the drivers title. They hold comfortable leads in both standings at the moment and it would take a dreadful weekend to deny them of a clean sweep. The independents drivers championship is still very much up for grabs however. Colin Turkington and Mat Jackson find themselves going into this weekend tied on 274 points each.

Season so far...

Giovanardi sets pace in final practice

Fabrizio Giovanardi continued his march towards the BTCC crown by setting the fastest time in the final practice session of the season. He was closely followed by Colin Turkington, team-mate Tom Chilton and his closest rival in the standings, Stephen Bailey. Darren Turner followed them in fifth place in the first of the works SEAT Leon's, whilst his team-mate, Jason Plato, languished down in 11th place.

Giovanardi passes first test

Championship leader Fabrizio Giovanardi has moved a step closer the BTCC crown, but securing pole position, and the extra point that comes with it, for the first race at Silverstone. He edges out closest rival Steve Bailey by only .051 of a second. Following the top two was Colin Turkington, who had the exact same time as Tom Chilton. Darren Turner was again the best of the works Leon's in fifth place. Tom Onslow-Cole took sixth, he was followed by his team-mates rival for the Independents title, Mat Jackson. Plato continued to struggle in his Leon in eight. Outgoing champion Matt Neal qualified his Halfords Honda Accord in ninth, narrowly ahead of team-mate Gordon Shedden.

Giovanardi takes race one and the title!

VX Racing's Fabrizio Giovanardi has clinched the British Touring Championship after his seventh win of the season in race one at Silverstone. The 42 year old Italian led every lap of the race, withstanding immense pressure from Colin Turkington, Stephen Bailey and late on in the form of Tom Onslow-Cole. In the end "FabGio" won the race by just .315 of a second from Onslow-Cole. In a throughly entertaining race, positions behind the Vauxhall number one swapped several times.

eighth touring car crown

The main talking point however came on lap six. Steve Bailey, second at the time, appeared to receive a tap from Tom Onslow-Cole in the Team RAC BMW, which sent the Leon off onto the grass on the entry to Brooklands corner, ending any hopes of keeping the championship alive for another race. When asked about the incident the youngster replied: "I definitely got a tap from the rear, it wasn't much of a tap but when your at full throttle it doesn't take much of a touch to send you off." He continued: "Even so, whether I would've been able to challenge Fabrizio is another story. The guy has done a fantastic job here this weekend. Over the course of the season he's been far more consistant than I have and thoroughly deserves the title."

For VX Racing, race one marked a double celebration as they clinched the Manufacturers title ahead of SEAT, to go with Giovanardi's success. VX Racing will almost certainly clinch the Teams title as well in race two.

Despite all that, there is still alot to play for, namely the independents title. Colin Turkington currently holds the lead by two points over Mat Jackson after the days opening race. Turkington's team-mate, Tom Onslow-Cole, has an outside chance of taking the title, although he'll have his work cut out being 13 behind Turkington.

There will also be a number drivers looking to impress teams enough to keep them or indeed take them on. Darren Turner of SEAT Sport UK is thought to be under abit of pressure. Turner is currently 39 points down on his team-mate, Jason Plato. With Stephen Bailey having a exceptionally strong debut season in a semi-works SEAT Leon, Turner could do with a couple of good results to finish the season on a high.

Shouldn't Team Pasty Muncher be in the independents championship??
