Team Pasty Muncher takes on the world[rFactor & GTR2]

Bailey takes race two, outgoing champ signs off with victory in final race.

Stephen Bailey and Matt Neal ended the season in style, as the pair secure victory the last two races of the season. For Matt Neal it was a fantastic end to what has been a disappointing season for the two-time champion. Jason Plato, who has also had a somewhat disappointing year, made him work hard for it however, as the pair swapped positions several times. However, had it not been for Bailey and Neal's team-mate Gordon Shedden colliding on the exit of Brooklands, they may not have been fighting for victory! Bailey had an astonishing first lap. Starting from eighth, the young Briton found himself in second at the end of the lap, right behind Shedden. On the run down to Brooklands, the SEAT pulled alongside the Halfords Honda and dived up the inside, only to run slightly wide, allowing Shedden the opportunity to come back up the inside. The pair touched, sending Shedden's Accord into a spin (fell to seventh), Bailey continued in third. Two cars later however, Bailey tried an impossible move on Tom Chilton, pushing the Vauxhall wide. When Bailey tried to rejoin, he got turned round by Darren Turner. New champion, Fabrizio Giovanardi, took advantage of the madness to move up from seventh to third in just a few corners.

There were several other controversial moments during the final race. Gordon Shedden turned round Colin Turkington's BMW on his charge back up the field, sending the Irishman down to 11th, handing second in the championship to Stephen Bailey. Bailey at this point was busy fighting his way back through the pack, and would eventually take third place with an fantastic move around the outside of Giovanardi at Luffield. Back up front, Neal and Plato would go on to swap positions five times in the last three laps. The pair are well known for having highly charged scraps on the track and slagging matches off it, but this time atleast, they were seen to be shaking hands and sharing a few friendly words after the race.

Colin Turkington, 2007 Independents Champion

Despite being taken out by Gordon Shedden, Colin Turkington secured the independents title, from fellow BMW driver, Mat Jackson, by ten points. Turkington's team-mate, Tom Onslow-Cole, finished third in the standings.

As the picture suggests, a first win for the Vectra and utter chaos off the line for race two! As I stated previously, the only way I was really going to win a race was if I got abit of luck, with the quickest guy in the league being too quick for me. Anyway! Here is that bit of luck. Started ninth on the grid (finished second again in race one) and was leading before the end of the first sector!

Here's that bit of luck...

That's right! The 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship. Team Pasty Muncher will continue it's participation in the BTCC after a promising debut campaign with the SEAT Leon driven by Stephen Bailey last year. The team has got it hands on a 2007-spec petrol engined Leon, which is the latest SEAT car independent teams can purchase. SEAT hasn't made the TDI Leon available to independents.

Double Podium for TPM at Donington

That's right, two more podiums for the TPM Vectra in the SROL BTCC. Real struggle this weekend with an extra 65kg in the car. Somehow qualified second for race one. Got as good a start as I could with the FWD Vectra, but was still passed by a BMW that was 5th on the grid! Got him back in turn one however. It was a fairly lonely race until I can up to lapping cars. One person in particular drove like an idiot and kept cutting my nose off whilst trying to lap him. One point he even put me on the grass. After about the third time he cut my nose off, the third place car had caught me and was up my inside. I spotted the pain in the arse pulling to the right for whatever reason, so I said stuff it and went round the outside of the pair of them in the next corner. Was fairly hairy!!! The third place car caught me again however, but the Vectra engine was too powerful for the Leon down the back straight and I held him off.

Starting race two from ninth, I made no places off the grid (surprise surprise) and actually didn't have too many problems working my way up to third! I couldn't go any further however, with the weight limiting my pace so much. So a double podium, which when looking at the fastest laps in the two races was a pretty good outcome!

Sitting comfortably in second in the championship at the moment and as long as I continue to be mistake free for the rest of the season, I should finish second as well.

As for the next rounds at Thruxton, I think I'll struggle big time as I'll be carrying 90kg. Lots of quick corners and a couple of heavy braking zones will really make it hard work.

For Thruxton I'll be carrying a special livery dedicated to former BTCC racer, Eurosport WTCC commentator and true gentleman, David Leslie, who was tragically killed in the plane crash in Kent last weekend.

Very good graphics and very appropriate I feel. Such a sorry loss for racing. I remember driving him of the track when playing TOCA 2 :(

Is that for the rest of the season?

Just for this weekend. Might use it when we race at Knockhill (Scottish track) aswell.

Also painted a Vectra as I'm undecided on whether I'll use the Leon or the Vectra for Thruxton at the moment!
