Mushfiqar Rahim and Zakir helped Bangladesh reach a mediocre total after West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl first. Church Street Park was buzzing with Bangladeshi expats waiting for their team to visit United States and play here. Pitch was not an easy one but also certainly not completely bowling friendly. Kyle Myers took a 5 wicket hall as Bangladesh ended on 233.
West Indies first target would be scoring 234 and securing a first innings lead. Taskin, Shakib and Mehidy tried very their best as they kept taking wickets but a crucial partnership between Chase and Bonner helped West Indies who were once reeling at 169 runs for a loss of 7 wickets get that crucial first inning lead. Bangladesh however did not let them run away and got them bowled out for 248 runs with a lead of only 15.
Bangladesh's second inning started with a hiccup as they quickly lost two wickets for only 6 runs on board before Tamim and Rahim built a strong recovery and added 92 runs for the 3rd wicket partnership. After Tamim's departure Rahim continued his fine form and with Shakib scored a magnificent century. Bangladesh were bowled out for 389 runs giving West Indies to chase 375 in a day and 1 hour time.
West Indies inning started positively as Chanderpaul and Braithwaite scored quickly looking to chase this total down and put on 100 run partnership in just 150 deliveries. Soon wickets kept tumbling and instead of losing this match West Indies new batting sensation Athanze kept one end going and ensure a draw.
Unfortunately based on the first inning lead wins in case of a draw rule, Bangladesh get knocked out and West Indies will play Australia.

Afghanistan did the right thing and won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that did not go their way. Florida weather meant hot humid conditions and this was Afghanistan's first ever big test competition. Nerves got to them as they lost 4 quick wickets at 60 runs. Shahidi who was Afghanistan's top run scorer along a little middle order contribution in Nabi, Jannat, Rashid and Naib helped lead a small recovery as Afghanistan's first inning total ended on a very mediocre 187. Southee, Jamieson, Wagner and Henry all contributed with wickets.
New Zealand started strongly as they put on a 60 run opening partnership before Jannat got Latham out. Conway and WIlliamson put on another 83 runs partnership wiping the deficit down to 44 runs. New Zealand's strong 2 partnership followed by some quick wickets as Afghanistan tried getting back into the match. In the end it was too little and too late as New Zealand inning ended on 365 runs with a lead of 178.
Afghanistan's second inning started in a better fashion as Gurbaz and Shahidi who was their top scorer again the second innings put on a 78 runs opening partnership in 30 overs with still trailing by 100 runs. 3 quick wicket saw Afghanistan struggling on 109 runs as Zadran and Nabi put up a great fight blocking deliveires and making New Zealand bowlers toil hard. They put up a 88 run partnership in 284 deliveries but Nabi's wicket opened up the gate of flood as lower order could not contribute apart from Rashid and Naveen's 50 run partnership. In the end Afghanistan were able to make New Zealand bat again as they ended their second inning on 263 runs with New Zealand needing mere 86 runs with a day and session remaining. Wagner was the pick of the bowler with 5 wickets.
New Zealand came out full guns blazing as Latham scored a 53 ball 59 and Conway remained unbeaten on 27 as New Zealand won by 10 wickets and proceed to next round. This was an expected result but Afghanistan should be a little disappointed as a better first inning score could have helped them compete better. In the end New Zealand played like a 5th ranked team.
New Zealand win and will play South Africa next in the Round 2 while Afghanistan get eliminated.

Sri Lanka won the toss in the beautify Dallas stadium and elected to bat first. The pitch already had few cracks but looked hard and would get better as days progressed. Karunaratne and Nissanka started off nicely for Sri Lanka as they put on 96 runs opening partnership, which once broken saw all hells get lose as Sri Lanka had a collapse and by losing 5 wickets for the next 87 runs. A fighting inning from Kushal Mendis who kept one end as wickets kept tumbling on other and a small contribution from de Silva saw Sri Lanka post 218 in the first inning. Blessing, Raza and Karvis were the pick of the bowlers.
Zimbabwe lost their first wicket for 27 runs as a solid watchful start came to an end as Innocent was caught by Mendis of Rajitha. Ervine and Kaitano scored 36 runs for the second wicket partnership as both departed in 3 deliveries. Balance and WIlliams tried rescuing but one wicket led to another as Zimbabwe struggled at 126 with 6 wickets down. Moor and Chakabva scored a brilliant 68 run partnership as they got Zimbabw really close but in the end as the trend of the match, Chakbva's wicket brought the remaining 4 wickets as the they scored only 1 run for the last 4 wickets. All bowlers except Kamindu Mendis got a wicket with Kasun Rajitha being the pick of the bowler with a 4 wicket haul.
Sri Lanka leading by 23 runs lost 3 quick wickets for 66 runs before Sri Lanka veteran Angelo Matthews and Kushal Mendis put on a 107 runs partnership in 228 deliveries. MAthews continued after Menidis's departure. However a crucial 52 run partnership between Chandimal and de Silva gave Sri Lanka lead of 300 runs. Blessing and Raza's brilliant bowling kept Sri Lanka to 285 runs with Zimbabwe chasing a daunting 309 runs to win.
Zimbabwe like their first inning had a decent start before Innocent departed with Zimbabwe on 21 runs. Constant partnerships and sensible batting from Kaitano, Ervine, Williams and Gary Ballance meant Zimbabwe were on course of chasing this historic total down. Sri Lanka however kept pickup wickets up with the crucial wicket of Muzarabani and breaking the Chakbva and Muzarbani partnership that was almost a match winning partnership.
Like the first inning once Muzarabani departed, Sri Lanka quickly grabbed the last two wickets with Zimbabwe losing by only 14 runs as they come so close to chasing this historic target down.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first trying to replicate what New Zealand did at the stadium with Afghanistan. Ireland were put into a little early trouble as they lost 3 quick wickets for 60 runs. Soon after veteran Paul Stirling and Curtis Campher put on a solid 95 run 4th wicket partnership. Campher departed scoring crucial 45 runs as Ireland had a lower order collapse as they went from 163/4 to 190/9. Josh Little and George Dockrell who scored 32 and 39 respectively put on a frustrating and massive partnership for Ireland scoring 67 crucial runs and last 30 overs from the Pakistani bowling. Pakistan's ability to take clear out the tail continued as Ireland posted a semi respectable score of 265 in the first inning.
Pitch did not have much demons in it and Pakistan's openers took advantage as they scored a 48 run opening partnership before losing their first wicket. Both openers departed in succession and Masood and Babar put ona 65 run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Saud Shakeel played some glorious shots while Babar did what he does the best, kept taking singles and holding one end. Saud departed after making a quick fire 43 in just 48 balls and Rizwan did not contribute much who departed soon after. Babar and Salman Ali put together another big partnership as Babar scored yet another century and continued his amazing form and Salman scored a well made 67. Pakistan's inning ended on 368 runs with a decent 103 runs lead. Josh Little was the pick of the bowler who picked up 6 wickets.
Ireland came out more confident in the second innings as they put on a great first wicket partnership of 76 in 30 overs before Paul Stirling was caught by Afridi. James kept the Irish going and scored his half century. A little contribution from middle order and Lorcan Tuckers 50 meant Ireland would make Pakistan bat again and they bettered their first inning total as they ended up scoring 299 runs. Abrar Ahmed was the pick of the bowler who took 5 wickets in the second innings and Pakistan will be needing a tricky 197 runs in a days time.
Abdullah Shafique and Imam Ul Haq started Pakistan response brilliantly as they both kept scoring runs at a quick rate. They put up 66 runs in 100 deliveries for the first wicket partnership. A bit of hiccup in the middle as Pakistan went from 66/1 to 150/4 making the match a tad little interesting. In the end Babar's 49 ensured his team did not lose this and Rizwan and Saud's quick scoring helped Pakistan score this down in only 43 overs as Pakball comes more into light.
Ireland fought well and few more early wickets might have made match interesting against a Pakistani side known for its collapse and mystery. Pakistan however played top class cricket throughout and Babar as usually carried his team by scoring 163 runs across both the innings. They will now Bazzball cricketers in England in round 2 while Ireland can go back home with heads high after giving a great fight.
