I'm with Telecom, get 8-9mb/s normally. 0.8mb/s for upload though.

I want to get a new modem/router for our house but I don't want to spend my own money on it and my dad doesn't think it's necessary. Which it probably isn't but still...

Are you on the fastest Telecom plan? I've been thinking of switching to Telecom for a while haha, and that doesn't seem that fast. Had then a few years ago and it was pretty nice.

When I complained about my internet cutting out to Vodafone, they said buy a new router. I did that, I bought the top of the line D-Link modem for $75 from Harvey Norman on Boxing Day worth around $150 (awesome deal), but it didn't fix anything and I returned it a little while later. Then I complained again saying I'd tried a new router, and they sent me a new router, which is the one that I just hit that speed on.

So try the same approach with Telecom, if they tell you to buy a new router, tell them you will, then call back a week later and tell them it did nothing. They didn't check if I bought one or not. Maybe they'll be kind and send you a nice router. They give you good routers, until a few months ago I was using the Telecom router I first got for free in like 07 or 08 or something, and it did the job.

They don't have a 'fastest' plan, it just based on your distance from the exchange normally
