All-rounder: Kapil Dev (Ind)

Virender Sehwag?? what a joke. Gilly should be opening for one. If not him its got to be Hayden for me opening the batting.

I would pick:
Adam Gilchrist (wk)
Sachin Tendulkar
Ricky Ponting
Brian Lara
Viv Richards
Inzamam Ul Haq/Michael Bevan/Lance Klusener
Kapil Dev/Imran Khan
Wasim Akram
Alan Donald
Muttiah Muralitharan
Glenn McGrath

I'd prefer Flintoff or Imran Khan as the all-rounder instead of Kapil Dev. And Hayden instead of Sehwag.

Don't really know why they determined the list through a public vote - that's a surefire way to mess it up. The inclusion of Sehwag is an example.

Sehwag and Dev? Lol.

Dev is understandable tho...Viru isn't in India's all-time ODI XI, let alone the world's...

Public Voting FTL.

I agree with the team with one exception. I would include Waqar over Donald.

I don't care what the stats say, I'd have Waqar over McGrath in my team any day and twice on Sunday

they have akram and donald who are the fast bowlers so they need a medium fast who opens the bowling and bowls out his ten through the middle overs.

Kapil Dev didn't open the bowling, but he could serve the purpose of a medium pacer. I feel that Warne should have been in the XI instead of a pacer, as the only all-rounder (Dev) in the side is a pace bowler. Warne and Murali along with Akram and Donald would form a lethal bowling attack.

Since Sehwag's selection has not been digested by the folks here, may I ask who should replace him in opinion of members here? A few names crop up like Jayasuria, Saeed Anwar, Mark Waugh, and Desmond Haynes. Or we could get Gilli to open and play an extra batsman?

The selections of such XIs are done in different categories, and Gilchrist is in the wicket-keeper's. So for that reason, we now have three openers in the side.

No, I thought so too but this is an official team that the ICC conjured up, not us PC members.

O ████, then my bad.

I guess Symonds over Lara is a tad contentious, but I wasn't going to drop/change the batting position of any of my top 4 and Symonds' batting stats at #5 (Average of 44.52 at a SR of 91.87) are significantly better than Lara's stats at #5 (Average of 30.72 at a SR of 72.89).

Anwar or Hayden are far more worthy selections
