The Art of Bowling in T20 cricket (international)

Surely the only way to make a yorker easy to get away is to get down the track and make it a full toss. You're already at a disadvantage if you're trying to do this. The trick for the bowler then becomes tailoring his length to how far down you come.

This is where Dhoni's helicopter shot comes handy. He hit a six on a dangerous yorker of Malinga. See it here :-

Just going to bump this thread, Jitendar Mukhiya young Nepal bowler was incredible in the death overs, pinpoint yorker after yorker. I know its Afghanistan hes playing but I haven't seen anyone recently hit yorkers (ok Malinga) as well as this guy. Pretty much won them the game as well 3-18 off 4 overs.

in my view the safe bowl would be a ball pitching on the line of the legs of the batsman, when there is a fielder in fine leg and square leg....
batsman cant do anything

Just a thought on yorker bowling at the end of the T20 world cup. I don't have any concrete evidence to back it up, but I'm wondering slightly if myself & others may have been too harsh on fast bowlers inability to consistently bowl yorkers in T20 cricket.

Since the 1st T20 world cup in 2007, the three best fast bowling yorker bowlers are still Malinga, Gul & Steyn. But Malinga is by far the most consistent - Gul & Steyn have about a 60/40 success/failure rate. Other fast bowlers in the world are simply poor/average at it & tend to try other variations to compensate.

I've always compared bowling in a T20 from overs 6-20 to the last 10 overs of the 50 overs game. Either that is too simplistic a view & bowling yorkers in T20 is harder than usual due to batsmen improvement or world quick bowlers have not done enough practice at the bowling like Malinga has done.

The best bowlers in T20 are essentially the spinners with variety, which is why the big three asian teams & West Indies have been the better T20 teams in these early years of the format.

Malinga seems to throw yorkers on demand, I believe he is highly underrated and I have seen him throw a full over of yorkers or at least 4/6 balls in an over on so many occasions.

Great bowler.

Yeah I agree with that, I've watched a lot of IPL and Champions League this year and its amazing how many ordinary spinners consistently can go out and take 3-20 from 4 overs. Just like Bedi said you just have to bowl and the batsman will make a mistake. Akshar Patel is the perfect example, couldn't see him doing much in a four or five day match the way he bowls yet he is so great in T20. I'm really surprised it has taken this long for a team (KKR) to finally figure out just bowl 75% overs of spin and you will win almost every match.
