Who should open with Hayden in the Tests?

What about Gilly? Bring about another new "tactic" to Test Cricket now, scoring in the first 20 overs, just like ODIs.
That's really not a new tactic, Langer and Hayden did it all the time, Sehwag was famed for it, plus many others will do it when they sense weakness.

There is Jaques. There's Hussey. I think Micheal Clarke would be a good Test Opener. He's shown eral good temperament so for in India. Of course, thats ODI's.

Gilly will have enough trouble holding onto his spot at 7. Plus we want to find an opener for more than a 1-2 years.

Yeah, he started late because of a broken thumb I think.

It's most interesting to note the 100s and 50s. Both have taken 6 50+ first class scores since the end of the 06-07 season, but where Rogers has converted one century, Jaques has converted four.

Where did you get them stats from? Look at Rogers vs Jaques last Aus Domestic season Domestic cup. I betcha Rogers owns him.

EDIT:

Rogers

2006-07 (Australia) 10 matches, 1202 runs, 279 H.S, 70 Avg, 3 hundreds and 7 fifties

Jaques

2006-07 (Australia) 11 matches, 987 runs, 192 H.S, 47 AVG, 3 hundreds and 5 fifties

Yeah but Angy's stats are from more recent times so are more relevant for the selection in the near future.

Even from the stats you've provided, Jaques still made the same ammount of centuries when Rogers was at his very best.

True, and last season wasn't just a standout year that came from out of the blue remember. He has been performing extremely well over the past 3 seasons for WA and in County Cricket.

Oh and knowing the selectors they will forget about last season, the County season, the Pakistani tour and then pick the batsman on who performs in the first two Pura Cup matches:mad:

Jaques has been performing for the last few seasons. If memory serves me right he had great seasons in 04/05 and 05/06

Damn, well since Rogers is no chance, how about another West Aussie? Hussey;) Nah, leave him at four...

Damn, I don't like Jaques.

Well I guess that makes it easier for the selectors. Jaques is a certainty after his 150 I should think.

Rogers being ruled out shouldn't make a difference as Jaques has been the stand out this season and even when he was meant to be out of form he still managed a average of just a touch under 50.

i will pick Phil Jaques because he had lot hundred and i remember he play his club (forget club name) against england in ashes warm up last year and he got one hundred each other innings.
