Update: Australia 85/1 after 20 overs​

Australia lost the wicket of opening wicketkeeper batsman Adam Gilchrist when he was out for a first ball golden duck. Pollock was the bowler who dismissed Gilchrist off the first ball of the match. Pollock bowled a slower delivery at around the off stmup of Gilchrist which was dragged to fielder by him and thus Australia were reduced to 0/1 in the very first ball.
Australian captain Ricky Pointing was the next to take guard. Ricky Pointing was looking comfortable at one end while Katich looked to play a much more waiting game. They looked to play out a in form looking pollock while at the other end got some useful boundaries agaist other opening bowler Mhakaya Ntini. Pollock while at the other end was bowling a imaculate line and length giving away nothing to the batsmen and at times even inducing some very diffcult chances.

After 5 overs from Ntini , he was replaced by Andre Nel.The boundaries still came from nel but at a slower pace while one end was guarded on by Pollock. Both batsmen continued to take singles off pollock now and even got odd boundaries from him while same treatment was given to Nel. Both Pointing and Katich were looking to get a eye in maybe and then try and up the rate but as the match proceeded the ball was not coming on to the bat and hence was a good time to introduce the slower bowlers.Peterson was changed for Andre nel while Australia reached a score of 85/1 at the end of fifty overs.

With the Ball not coming onm to the bat and a spinner being employed it is going to be difficult to score runs freely but on the other hand Australia have two set batsmen at the crease particularly Pointing who we know can accelerate at will. South Africa will be hoping for a few wickets and that to quickly while Austalia would be looking to free thier arms a bit now and get the momentum going.

Katich Dismissed​

Australia have managed to reach 181 for the loss of five wickets at the end of fourty overs. Continuing from 8/1 after 20 overs Pointing and Katich continued thier partnership cleverly by playing some very good cricket. They never tried anything fancy and took the runs as they came.Katich was seen struggling getting singles but got the odd boundary to keep some pressure off him. They continued on to form a partnership of 98 runs. At the score of 98 runs katich was dismissed when he edged a delivery from Peterson to keeper Boucher. Katich was out for a score of 45 runs.

Hussey Pointing Rebuild​

Hussey was the next man to take guard. He along with pointing took ahead the good work of earlier partnership and instantly started scoring at more than a run a ball which hepled the run rate to go up a little. Pointing and Hussey still made a decent effort to maintian the run rate above 4 and a half runs per over without taking much risks. It was a good base again forming for Australia , a base from which they could propell themselves to a very significant total.

Peterson Hattrick​

Peterson Got the first Hat Trick of the ICC World Cup 2007 just at the right time to get South Africa back into the match and proabably get ahead of Australia. Peterson's got his first victim when he looped a ball on fooler length which Poitning attampted a drive , edged the ball and was caught by keeper. Australia were now reduced to 158/3. Micheal Clarke was the new batsmen to come and he was out next ball. Clarke mistimed a leg glance to give a dolly to pollock who gleefully accepted it. Australia were now reduced to 158/4. Phil Jaques was next to come in. He was facing the Hat Trick ball, the crowd cheered as peterson came on to bowl only for Jaques to pull out. As Peterson came again the crowd was even more noisier and they got even more louder as they witnessed the first Hat Trick of World Cup 2007. Jaques tried to defend the ball but because of his nervousness he did not come forward completely and the ball took a edge enroute to the keeper. Australia were now reduced to 158/5 from 158/2 with Pointing ,Clarke and Jaques dismissed.

Shane Watson joined Mike Hussey and both are at the moment not out and playing with Hussey just reaching his half century off 51 balls. Can Hussey and Watson Finish off the Australian Innings in style or will South Africa keep the Pressure on and bowl out Australia for a low total. The difference could be 15-20 runs but on a pitch like this it could make a difference.

Australia have set a target of 244 runs for South Africa to win. Resuming on 181 for five at the end of forty overs the Australians took some time to get along with it as Watson found diffuculty in scoring runs. He was choking up at one end and finally got out on a score of 17 runs. He was completely decived off a delivery of Ntini and eventually got bowled leaving Australia at 193/6.Micheal Hussey was doing excellent job at one end where he was scoring one boundary an over as well as getting singles at right times to retain strike.Hussey and Cullen then formed a partnership of 26 runs before hussey was dismissed by Kallis. Hussey was out trying to accelerate and got a faint nick to keeper boucher. The tail then wagged a bit and got Australia to a score of 243 runs at the end of fifty overs. Peterson was the best bowler for south africa with bowling figures of 10-0-47-5.

South Africa will need a very good start to thier Innings for chasing this total. On this pitch this is going to be a challenge for the batsmen to score runs as the pitch has slowed down a lot. South Africa would require a big Innings from one of thier experienced players while Australia would want to make some serious early inroads
