Rahul's Twin Tons see India home at Adelaide Oval

When KL Rahul and Murali Vijay strode out to the middle of Adelaide Oval after tea on day 4, India had an incredibly achievable task ahead of them. It would be their 6th highest successful chase in tests if it was achieved, but the pitch still looked good to bat on, and Australia had arguably one of their weakest attacks ever for a home test. Murali Vijay unfortunately could not make the most of it, as Siddle would claim his wicket after a poorly hit drive landed straight in Chris Tremain's hands at mid off. Australia's leg spinner Fawad Ahmed would get the wicket of Pujara, which brought the captain to crease at 2/56. The day would finish with India 2/77, with the match firmly in the balance.

Day 5 saw nothing but Indian dominance, as Virat Kohli and KL Rahul plundered the Australian bowlers all around Adelaide Oval. Kohli would pass 50, as Rahul closed in on a 2nd ton for the match. India would be 2/165 at lunch on day 5, with the target now less than 100 away. Kohli would finally fall for 83, but the damage was done, and India were only 42 runs away from the target. KL Rahul had brought up his century, his 3rd against Australia and Rishabh Pant would hit his way to 20* after a mini Scott Boland inspired collapse saw Rahane and Sharma fall cheaply. India would cruise to a 5 wicket win, and claim a 1-0 lead in the series.

Captain Virat was at his best in the chase, finishing on 83.

No surprise to anyone as KL Rahul was awarded with man of the match for his twin tons. His brilliant batting guided India to the first time it has won the first match of a test series in Australia. Scott Boland was the stand out bowler of the match with 7 wickets, and looks to have secured a place in the Australian line up. The next match is the first test match in the brand new Perth Stadium, as Australia will desperately looking to regroup and turn the series around.

Cricket Australia announce banned players will be available for Boxing Day.

Cricket Australia have dropped an absolute bombshell, with the banned players from the Cape Town test being available to play for Australia from the Boxing Day Test (3rd test), and onwards. However the permanent bans for Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft remain in affect, and there was no update around whether those bans would ever be lifted. There is one caveat with this announcement however, and it is that only 3 players from that side can be selected in one match. Cricket Australia hope that limiting the amount of influence these players can have on the field, will prevent another incident like the one in Cape Town from ever happening again.

Many players from that Cape Town test, will be hoping it wasn't their last.

In news for the 2nd test, Glenn Maxwell has been added to Australia's test match squad ahead of the test in Perth. Australia and India are both looking at playing with no front line spinner in Perth, and Australia may bring Maxwell's all-round abilities into the team to help balance a side with no front line spinner. He had a fantastic shield match with Victoria just days ago, finishing the match with 129 runs and 4 wickets, bringing his incredible white ball form into the red ball.

Scores of 95 and 34 against WA, have seen Maxwell added to the test squad.

India have been struck with an opening batsmen problem as Murali Vijay's fails in the first test highlighted how out of form the batsmen has been, and Prithvi Shaw has been sent home after a tour ending ankle injury. Mayank Agarwal and Hardik Pandya are being flown over to join the Indian squad, however they will not be available for the 2nd test. It is expected Hanuma Vihari or Rohit Sharma will open the batting along side KL Rahul in Perth.
