Not todays, because the all round game wasn't good. Poor bowling, fielding and captaincy. A lot of runs and a tight finish. Mabee the most thrilling and exciting game. Not "the best"

World Cup semi-final and mabe the Natwest Final are the only two games I saw/remember anything about.

no it wasnt the greatest ODI...

because it lacked decent top-class bowling, it was just a game dominated by bat.
the Poms would never have labelled it greatest ODI if Aust had won...

The reason why I think the WC semifinal was the best was because there was so much at stake. It was in a very important match and the cherry on the cake was that farcical runout at the end. Simply brilliant. This game was good as well, but the emotions were of a different level.

I go with you mate! I go for the 1999WC semifinal! That was the World Cup. No occasion can get bigger than the World Cup!

i voted for last nites match. i still cannot believe what happend. stupid bracken dropping gibbs, drop bracken now from the squad. i dont no why people are saying the fielding was bad. there was plenty of good fielding. hall's catch, symonds caught and bowled, hussey running and diving catch. there were quite a few missfields but there were some great stops aswell.

no doubt in that todays game is the most thrilling game and best in the cricket ODI's. 434 runs and still chasers beat the batting first team, even sometimes its not easy to score 220+ runs in an innings and what the game it was, 434 and 438 in two innings and its like a 20-20 game every ball was going to hit for runs, cheers from everyone, crowd got wild, how can u forget that all.

there has been some great games involving australia in the past year. the ashes whole series, a few one dayers in the ashes tour, aus losing to bangladesh, ponting and symonds saving us against sri lanka in the 2nd vb final to score 340, those 2 one dayers in new zealand that were over 300 aus won one and nz won the 2nd won very close games. probably some others aswell

last one was record game cuz of most runs scored in the game by both teams, and if talking about the greatest game how can u forget the first game played in world cup 2003 between aus and pakistan where symonds do all the hard work to beat pakistan.

yeh and to think that he wasnt going to be in the world cup squad, but ponting got him in there. that changed his career.

i cant wait for the test on thursday. i have a feeling its going to be another series like the ashes. but australia will win it this time ;)

Well what made this game more the sweeter was the fact that there was a lot of background feuding going on between Ponting and Smith. The fact that Smith called the Aussies chokers really fired them up to score such a huge total!

Make no mistake, from a statistical point of view this is the greatest game that has ever been played. We can talk about crowd emotion, catches, spectacular runouts, but 5 years on all that we will see is the statistics.

I will remember Gibb's fine innings and faintly Pontings wonderfukl knock, but really all that I remember in 5 years time is that

SOUTH AFRICA SCORED 438 RUNS TO WIN BATTING SECOND!

:happy :happy :happy :happy :happy :happy

thats a large font....you must be elated...

Stats really don't count much, yes they do mention something but they fail to explain the context of the match. Without quality bowling and fielding, no match will be interesting.

Ofcourse, scoring and chasing 400's is the biggest you can get and that too in Johannesburg, but you need all the three departments clicking. That'll make cricket interesting.

Today's match was more like baseball, person who throws...doesn't count, its the player who just whacks the ball.

I assume you mean mens cricket rather than saying that Andrew is a woman (although I've heard he does look fetching in high heels :p)Todays game was the best in terms of sheer power and bluster but it didn't have the guile or art of previous games because the fielders (Gilchrist catch excepted) and bowlers didn't really turn up.
Cricket has to be about an even contest between bat and ball as well as between two teams.
As for the greatest match, I think the 99 game was such a great match I'm convinced it was fixed :p

I was thinking about that, when I read it. :laugh

Also a great match was the Karachi match of Pakistan vs India, where there was last ball six needed for Pakistan to win.

But for me one of the best was the Semi-Final of South Africa vs Australia.

Anyone remember that test between India and Pakistan recently? Was that a great test match?

In a simple summation, it was probably the most unbelievable match, and the most emphatic victory, but not quite the greatest. A revolutionary match, yes, but it just didn't combine the other elements that make a game the "best". However, it's an opinion based argument. And yeah, I agree with an above post, the fielding was quite good.
