Sri Lanka's tour of Australia
2nd ODI, Sydney
First 10 overs of the match
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first
Sri Lanka came out to field with a certain plan against the in form Australian openers, Shane Watson and Tim Paine. Lasith Malinga started the proceedings for Sri Lanka. The furious slinger looked dangerous today. On the second delivery of the match, there was a loud appeal for an LBW against Watson. It was pretty close to call, but the umpire turned the appeal down.
Shane Watson looked pretty uncomfortable against Malinga. Unable to score of the first 5 deliveries, Watson went for an unnecessary cover drive which landed straight into the hands of Dilshan. It was a certain wide, but the frustration lead to the attempt. Watson was out for a duck and the troubles for Australia had begun.
No sooner did Watson depart, the wicketkeeper Tim Paine followed him back to the pavilion. It was a beauty from Welegedara. Pain on flicking it couldn't keep the ball down which went directly into the safe hands of Ajantha Mendis.
Australia was in deep trouble now as both the openers had departed with the score being just 2 runs.
A lot was expected from the pair of Ponting and Clarke. Clarke was looking pretty good out there. They certainly did manage to stay at the crease, but runs didn't come easily. Ponting, one of the greatest batsmen in the world couldn't adapt himself much to the Sydney wicket this time. The run rate was going down and down. Australia were at 15 for the loss of 2 wickets after 7 overs. Ponting, on trying to be a bit aggressive gave a simple catch to Welegedra. Nobody knows what was happening to the Australian team. The wickets were simply falling at regular intervals.
Then came in Cameron White. He got off the mark with a pure classy boundary towards the covers. Michael Clarke had begun looking confident. He seems to be the backbone of the Australian innings and Australia would rely on Pup if they stand a chance to cross even the 200 run mark.
Entire credit for the batting collapse goes to Lasith Malinga. Slinger Malinga looked better than ever today. Bowling 5 overs out of 2 of them being maiden is something to be appreciated. The icing on the cake is the ER. Just 6 runs in 30 deliveries. Australians really need to figure out a trick to face the mighty yorkers of Malinga.
Sorry for the spelling error. It should be "off Randiv"
