REACHING NEW HEIGHTS - AN ICC JOURNEY WITH SRI LANKA
Sri Lanka are no longer the underdogs of world cricket
In the last two decades Sri Lanka have gone from 'underdog' status to a powerhouse cricketing nation. The Sri Lankan side have had quite a bit of success in the last two decades including winning the 1996 World Cup beating Australia, reaching the semi finals of the 2003 World Cup and being runners up in the 2007 World Cup. The Sri Lankns have also been able to revolutionize how ODI cricket is played which has been characerized by theri aggressive batting in the first fifteen overs in the innings to take advantage of the fielding restrictions imposed druing this time.
With the batting of Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakarra and Mahela Jayawardene backed up with the bowling of Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas the Sri Lankan side is definitely not one to underestimate. With veterans Vaas, Murali and Jayasuriya in the final years of their careers and the 2011 World Cup just around the corner, Sri Lanka face the tough task of looking to the future or sticking with their veterans..
SRI LANKA's YEAR AHEAD:
Twenty/20 World Cup in South Africa
New Zealand in Sri Lanka (3 Tests and 5 ODI's)
Sri Lanka in India (3 Tests and 5 ODI's)
