Story Dark Horses' Time to Rule <Sri lankans win the thriller>

Sri Lanka vs India
1st ODI , Idea Cup 2008
End of 30 overs

Sachin's innings makes India firm Favorites to Win

Sehwag had set a good platform for the coming batsman to capitalize . It was the most important stage of the match as the powerplay overs had finish and Mahela had bought his spin twins on . Sachin again welcomed Mandis in his second over with a four over mid on in same fashion he hit in his first over . But to surprise all Murali was not given the ball . Mahela had bought on Kulasekera again in the attack . And to surprise all Kulasekera struck on his first ball . What a bowling change . Kulasekera pitch the ball on mid and off , gambhir went for the cover drive but the ball just came back in a little and hit the middle stump . Gambhir couldn't believe and had to go . Gambhir went back for 20 of 37 balls and Indians had lost their second wicket for 112 .

S.Gavaskar : What a brilliant ball by Kulasekera ! Gambhir cant believe he has missed it and Sri Lankans have got the breakthrough . Gambhir depart for 20 of 37 balls and Indians are 112 for 2 .

Newman to replace Gambhir was another inform player Suresh Raina who had made his comeback in the Indian team with a brilliant Asia Cup and he was with the Little Master on the pitch . Mahela decided to rebring Mendis and Murali in the attack . Raina was unable to read the two spinners and the runs were getting difficult to come . Raina wasnt able to rotate the strike . But as Sachin had the strike he made perfect use of that by taking the twos and hiting the boundaries . Sachin soon reached yet another One Day 50 and as usual the crowd gave him a big applause has he looked at the heavens . Sachin had played the anchoring role really well now he was getting the runs for his side . But soon as the partnership was building Suresh Raina played a useless shot under pressure and was caught at cover Silva of Mendis . Sachin played some brilliant shots . He smashed Murali for a huge six over Long on and in the next over he belted a huge six over fine leg of the bowling of Mendis .

H.Bhogle : The pressure is on the young lad and he is out , straight in the hands of Chamara Silva at covers and Mendis has his first . Raina departs for 7 of 13 balls and India are 146 for 3 .

Vice captain Yuvraj Singh was the new man in . His role was just to support Sachin who had moved in the 70s in no time . Sachin looked unstoppable as he smashed Mendis with spin for a boundary through the covers . After the end of 30 overs India had scored 162 for the loss of 3 wickets . Ajanta Mendis was expensive in his 5 overs by going for 32 while MUrali went for 30 in his 6 overs . India still need 112 in 120 balls and Sachin was still there at the crease .

This game sitll isn't out of the hands of the Lankans. Just get Tendulkar and they win the game;)

Nice presentation! KUTGW!

Mendis 1/32 in 5 overs? :p

I bet he's saving his tricks for when theres only 2 runs needed with a ton of balls left lol

Also, I have a question - in the photo you say that Sachin hit Murali for a huge 6, yet in Sachin's 50, theres only 4 fours

What's going on? :p

Another masterful Half-Century by the Little Master. India should easily win it from here.

Great graphics and presentation mate. Loving this story!

India are in firm control here. A big total is looking likely.

Once again great work mate, looking good so far

india dominating sri lanka will have to come back strong

He smashed Murali and Mendis for sixes after he reached his half century . So in the pic he has only 4 boundaries

End of 40 overs

Double blow adds Pressure on the Indians

Indians were on the right track and victory was very close unless and untill the Indians played some stupid shots . Sachin Tendulkar had scored yet another 50 and was marching towards yet another century . While Yuvraj Singh had just come in the crease . Mendis and Muralitharan continued their search of one more wicket and it did come when Yuvraj Singh edged one on to his stumps . Yuvraj in the same over had hit Mendis for a boundary over mid on and tried to repeat the same shot but this time it was the googly by Mendis and Yuvraj got a nick and the ball hit the off stump . Yuvraj departed for 8 of 21 balls and Indians lost their 4th wicket for 171 .

R.Shastri : Thats a very poor shot to play when you have scored a boundary in the same over . Yuvraj has to go for 8 of 21 balls and India are 171 for 4 .

New man to replace Yuvraj Singh was Mumbai middle order batsman who had made his name in the Indian cricket teams thanks to some brilliant series in Australia . Rohit Sharma struggled a lot to play Mendis and Muralitharan and the two bowlers took the advantage of this as they tried their best to keep Sachin of strike . The run rate was decreasing as Rohit struggled . But soon he decided its hight time and he has to press acceleration button and he smashed Murali for a boundary over his head . The singles began to come . But the pressure was on the Indians . The required run rate had go above 6.5 and Indians were getting hardly 4 an over . Sachin kept his calm by taking the ones and twos but it was Rohit Sharma who fell in the trap . Murali had gone for only 8 runs in his last 4 overs and he got in wicket the last ball of his spell . Rohit going for the big hit over mid wicket edged the ball and was caught by Kapugedera at mid wicket .

S.Gavaskar : Sharma goes for the big one and he is easily caught by the fielder at mid wicket . The pressure made him go for the big one and India losing wickets at regular intervals as Rohit Sharma goes for 13 of 26 balls and India are 191 for 5 .

It was now time for the skipper to march in . Mahendra Singh Dhoni who has been in many a times in this situation most of the times he has conquered it . He was along with Sachin Tendulkar at the crease . Sachin was playing a sensible innings and was not out on 85 as Dhoni came in . Dhoni got of the mark straight away with a single . Sachin and Dhoni didnt go for the big ones as it was difficult to go for them against Mendis who bought back to the attack along with Jayasuriya who was bowling pretty well . Sachin and Dhoni decided to take the ones and twos and keep the run rate and scoreboard ticking . They added 16 runs in 2 overs and at the end of 40 overs India were 207 for 5 . Sachin still not out on 90 and Dhoni had just arrived and scored 11 . Obly 2 boundaries were scored in 10 overs and the pressure was on the Indians . India need 70 in 10 overs at 7.0 runs per over

India 207/5(40)
V.Sehwag c Vaas b Kulasekera 47(46)
S.Tendulkar *90(88)
