Test stats: 226 wickets @ 31.82 (8 5WI, best 7/12) in 63 matches
First-class stats: 744 wickets @ 27.96 (27 5WI, best 7/12) in 211 matches

A lot of people seem to forget that peak Steve Harmison was one of the most frightening propositions in world cricket. But ultimately, I think @DalePlaysCricket has picked him because he's from the North-East of England.

:eng: :bat: David Gower

Test stats
: 8,231 runs @ 44.25 (18 centuries, best 215) in 117 matches
First-class stats: 26,339 runs @ 40.08 (53 centuries, best 228) in 448 matches

David Gower is odd in that his memory is almost tarnished by how beautifully he batted: surely, argues conventional wisdom, if he made batting look so easy, he must have found it so easy. It turned out though, that he was human in the most upper-class of ways.

Protected player 8: @El Loco

Rejected by
: @Dutch

Test stats
: 189 wickets @ 16.43 (24 5WI, best 9/103) in 27 matches
First-class stats: 719 wickets @ 17.09 (68 5WI, best 9/103) in 133 matches

There is no way around this: Sydney Barnes took 24 five-wicket hauls in only 50 innings of bowling at Test level. He is the most destructive bowler there has ever been - in terms of wickets at least.

Test stats: 5,570 runs @ 47.60 (17 centuries, best 204*) in 96 matches
First-class stats: 10,334 runs @ 44.16 (30 centuries, best 204*) in 190 matches

Honestly I'm tired enough that I may not have managed to make entire sentences without dozing off between words. I think it's worth mentioning at this point that it'd be harder to fall asleep with Gilchrist flaying bowlers around.

@Dutch / @El Loco

Test stats: 13,289 runs @ 55.37 (45 centuries, best 224) and 292 wickets @ 32.65 (5 5WI, best 6/54) in 166 matches
First-Class stats: 19,565 runs @ 54.10 (62 centuries, best 224) and 427 wickets @ 31.69 (8 5WI, best 6/54) in 257 matches

An excellent choice of protected player, one of the very greatest all-rounders of all time will be a vital cog for @ahmedleo414 as he seeks to build a side around him.

YES!

Surprised no one went with Bradman. I would have done so but I thought at least one person would have taken Bradman. Darn it!

so hang on I’ve completely misunderstood this.

This has been me ever since the very start of this weird and wonderful idea! :p[DOUBLEPOST=1583916538][/DOUBLEPOST]

That is exactly why no one went for him.

On my part, I wanted to pick Sachin but wasn't sure of his availability. Opted to select his role model and arguably one of the greatest test openers instead.

To keep players out of the Lucky Dip and the rest of the draft, unless they were protected by one participant in the first round
Layer One: Protected Player
Each manager will nominate a protected player. This player will be someone you get to keep in your team regardless of what happens in Layer Two.
  • HOWEVER - a player can only be protected by one manager. If two of you try to protect the same player, then neither of you get to keep him.

So rejected players are kept out of the main draft.

Also, if they go into the Lucky Dip, then anyone who rejected them can't get them.

The only way to get in ahead of a player being rejected is by protecting them at the start.

I did try to explain what each of the three lists meant in the first PM, but I know this draft is pretty brain-melty

Yep, everyone gets to keep their chosen player

Cheers. Think I'm fully on board now.

And, I had just watched a highlight video of him while "working"...
