Amidst all of the wonderful lighting deal drafts and the randomised ones where you feel like you're constantly reacting to try and salvage your team, here comes a draft that promises to satisfy all of the classical desires that your nostalgic mind craves for with the standard order and rules. One where you get to pick your side completely by yourself without any malevolent force interfering. One where you can plan for your turn and try to form your best XI.....
....but it wouldn't a PlanetCricket draft without a small catch would it? And so this draft has one too. One that will be a jibe at the current franchise cricket model of Rashid Khan turning out in different jersey colours in different country leagues without attachment. Every time you pick a player you'll be ruling yourself out of picking other players from the teams your pick has represented in their career in any first-class, List A or T20 match. To illustrate this better let me give you some scenarios.
Scenario #1 : If I pick Ravi Ashwin in the first round, then I'm not allowed to pick any player that has played for these following teams at any point in time...
India, India A, Indians, Nottinghamshire, Rest of India, South Zone, Surrey, Tamil Nadu, Worcestershire, India Blue, India Green, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals, Rising Pune Supergiants
This does mean that I can't pick any player that has played for any of these sides at any point in their career. For instance, Ambati Rayudu may have not played for CSK alongside Ashwin but he'll still be ineligible for me to pick because he did play for CSK at one point in his long career.
I'll also be following teams represented as they are listed by CricketArchive. Since they treat a team that has changed the team name to something different as a separate side this means that I can pick a player like Matthew Short who played for Punjab Kings as he hasn't played for any of the other teams that Ashwin played for. And yes, this does mean that Rising Pune Supergiants and Rising Pune Supergiant are two separate entities because they removed a letter. Goenka was just looking out for the participants of this draft. This rule also means that it'll be an absolute mess when dealing with players from countries that have revamped their domestic and franchise structure multiple times like South Africa but I'm hoping CricketArchive will help deal with that alongside any user being extra helpful.
Scenario #2 : If I pick Samarth Vyas then I'm ruling myself out of picking any player from Saurashtra such as the specialist death bowler Jaydev Unadkat. However since Vyas hasn't played a game for Sunrisers Hyderabad technically (despite being listed as associated with SRH due to them picking him in the auction) I'm allowed to pick any player who has played for the latter without having played for Saurashtra in the next round such as Kane Williamson or even Adil Rashid who was a part of SRH this season like Vyas. This will help deal with the oddities I've sometimes noticed on Cricinfo as they don't always get the teams represented part correctly.
Scenario #3 : If I pick Brian Lara, then I'm ruled out of picking any players from these sides...
ICC World XI, Trinidad & Tobago, Warwickshire, West Indians, West Indies, West Indies Board President's XI, West Indies Board XI, West Indies U-23s, Young West Indies, Northern Transvaal, Southern Rocks (yes, that's a Zimbabwean team)
That rules me out of picking Shai Hope (via association with West Indies), Moeen Ali (via association with Warwickshire), Luke Jongwe (via association with Southern Rocks), Martin van Jaarsveld (via association with Northern Transvaal) and even Rashid Khan who played for the ICC World XI in 2018 as part of the Hurricane Relief Challenge, a match that has T20I(!) status. As you can see that is quite the diverse collection of players that are ineligible when you'd have originally thought that Lara having played only 3 T20s in his career was a shrewd pick.
I'm aware that Brian Lara was a part of the rebel ICL but neither Cricinfo nor CricketArchive have listed it among T20s that he played and I believe that those matches were not granted T20 status due to the BCCI not authorising the league so I'm not considering the teams of that competition as eligible. This does mean I can pick another player that was associated with Mumbai Champs like Nathan Astle that doesn't conflict with the other sides listed.
Since we're taking a jab at the current franchise model it would be best to have this be a T20 draft. Player skills will be judged on their overall T20 records mainly and only players who have officially participated in at least one T20 match are eligible to be picked. I'm pretty sure the three scenarios I've given above don't represent every possible way you can find loopholes in the draft rules and there may be more ways that I haven't thought of yet. Should I find more I'll include them above and if you find any you're free to share it with everyone or keep it to yourself for that one special pick you desire . Other draft rules are fairly standard; you get twenty-four hours to make your pick after which it skips to the next person in line, there will be a fixed draft order, you can't change your picks once made and I'll take the final decision on any loophole or exploit or confusing pick. I'm looking to have eight signups at the moment but that may vary depending upon the interest level. I may drop out if we go over eight and someone really wants to participate as I'd already have plenty on my hands looking for team conflicts.
Making this a t20 draft is brutal, the easy picks of older test players are kinda gone. Think you've got around the number of participants you've wanted and I might not have enough time so will sit this one out but let me know if you need another

Seeing Procter and Bart King be picked for the hundredth time gets boring eventually. As for the participants part, I don’t mind having an extra user or two but if you haven’t got the time I appreciate that since I can see it becoming complicated a few rounds into the draft.

Nah, the picks you make apply the ineligibility rule to you alone and not others. I did experiment with a variation of that on a per round or following round basis but found it too chaotic to track for a first draft, maybe that can be a sequel thing if this one works well. I guess I should have been clearer on that in my initial post.
To summarise, if you pick Kohli it means you can’t pick any capped Indian players for the rest of the draft but the others can till they pick a Rohit or Ashwin.
