The Pakistan Situation

no, thats not stupid. Akthar needs to get his act straight. If he is going to be a "media hog" I rather him out of the team rather than see him in the team, and doing stupid stuff.

Another thing, Akthar is not a hard-worker, he'll give up on the field. Sami on the other hand is always trying, and he does suceed. He is bowling 90 mph+ again and I believe he still has most of his career to work on his bowling. He will gradually improve if we get a good bowling coach (Waqar, Aqib, or Wasim) to tell him where and how to bowl. Right now he is quite clueless. He has the basics. His yorkers are stunning, his bouncers are great.

Completely agree about Akhtar. He is a decent bowler and if he actually works harder he really could of been the best bowler in the game but instead he just used cricket as a foundation for his wealth and fame. I remember reading an article in a local newspaper where the interviewer chatted to Woolmer back when Pakistan toured SA and Woolmer said Akhtar never thought about the team and would often go off the field if it was extremely hot or had a very slight injury.

He does put the effort in ... England and India at home a year back... he was workin his socks of in tests on a flat pitch and got us the crucial wickets... anymore questions about his commitment...

Where is he now?

Oram is playing with a broken finger, Hayden is playing with a broken toe, Vaughan with a hamstring and dodgy knee

shoaib carrried the pakistan bowling attack himself in the 2004-2005 tour to australia
if we had gul or asif available that series would have been much closer

Mate you dont know about the mystery behind the PCB. No one will ever understand!

* Younis khan
* Mohammad Yousaf
* Salman Butt
* Imran Nazir (only ODI)
* Mohammad Hafeez
* Inzamam-ul-Haq (only test)
* Kamran Akmal
* Yasir Hameed

* Shoaib Akhtar
* Mohammad Asif

* Umer Gul
* Rana Naved (only ODI)
* Danish Kaneria (only test)

* Shoaib Malik
* Shahid Afridi
* Azhar Mahmood (only ODI)

Thats what I would keep after this world cup.

I don't agree with you there. Azhar is not anywhere as good as Razzaq. So I would have this:

* Younis khan
* Mohammad Yousuf
* Salman Butt
* Imran Nazir (only ODI)
* Mohammad Hafeez
* Inzamam-ul-Haq (only tests)
* Kamran Akmal
* Yasir Hameed

* Mohammad Asif
* Umar Gul
* Rao Ifkthar (Back up ODI bowler)
* Mohammad Sami
* Danish Kaneria (only test)

* Shoaib Malik
* Shahid Afridi
* Abdul Razzaq

Sami and Ifthikar were undoubtedly our best WC bowlers.

He's way too old.. He won't be able to carry on until the next world cup, and I rather see him being dropped right now. Sami shows far more enthusiasm, and his bowling lately hasn't been to bad either. Start with youngsters, face it, thats the way to go for Pakistan or for any team.

and stick with them but don't make them learn their trade at international level or they will fail

There are plenty of set cricketers, that are ready to come in, most of them have faults, and they need to be corrected. Salman Butt was decent, just had one fault that was his problem with edging in to the slips while playing the drive. That cover drive is his best shot without a doubt, but he still needs to work on it, and if he is given sometime at international level, I am sure that he will succeed.

I thought Salman Butt was the best opener you had had for a long time

He was, or he should have been. Until something went on in Wasim Bari's head, and he was dropped. Yet we give Faisal Iqbal, and Imran Farhat a chance. I thought that Farhat was going to be our opener, but than again he was dropped one tour before the WC. I never thought he was good, but it's unfair if you play a lad for 2 years and then suddenly drop him when it's time for the World Cup.

Anybody who can open the batting for Pakistan against Australia in their backyard and score a century certainly deserves more chances than this guy got. I really thought he could be our next Anwar if given enough time.
