Styris in full flow!

There was little respite for the Mashonaland bowlers as Scott Styris broke the shackles and started to pick the gaps. He was severe on anything pitched short of a length, cutting and punching off the back foot.

Styris, on assuming the new role of aggressor belted 14 runs from 7 balls to race to his 50 off 51 balls.

Needless to say, the home supporters were absolutely ecstatic. The Northerns are 178/4 in 35 overs.

Streak nails Kelly!

Heath Streak came out with the trump card as he continued to bowl even after getting some stick from Kelly and Styris. This ball was an absolute beauty - started on off stump and swung in late. Kelly tried to work it on to the leg side and was trapped in front. Northerns - 5/190.

The left handed allrounder Yovich is the next man in.!

Yovich Fails! Nkala Nails!!

Mashonaland tightened the screws further as Nkala produced a peach of a delivery to castle Yovich. The ball was a beautiful off cutter pitched outside leg stump and Yovich tried to play it on the leg side, only for the ball to dart in sharply and disarrange the stumps. Streak shows his Midas touch again by bringing on Nkala. Northern Districts are now precariously placed at 204/6. But any score of over 200 is good in a green top.

Barrett strikes as Northerns crumble..

Gary Barrett, the debutant left arm seamer struck the decisive blow as he pinned the Northerns' wicket keeper Robbie Hart with a wicked delivery.

The ball pitched on legstump and moved away as the batsman did not read the line and was castled. He scored 1 run in 3 balls. The Northern Districts are 206/7.

Martin is the new man in.

The captain Heath Streak took a fantastic catch at short midwicket to get rid of Martin. The batsman tried a rather unconvincing hoick of Barrett and streak pulled off a great catch diving full length to his right. He scored 5 runs in 7 balls. Norther Districts are 219/8. Aldridge walls in. Styris is in the danger of being stranded.

Styris falls as Northerns lose the plot..

The celebrations were on for an buoyant Mashonaland team and the debutant Gary Barrett as he picked the most important wicket of the innings - Scott Styris.

It was yet another display of the amplified seam movement as Barrett got the ball to rip into the stumps after macking a mockery of Styris' technique.

This has been a debut to remember for Barrett taking 3 wickets. The Northern Districts are reeling at 226/9 in 43.2 overs as the last man West walks in.

Northern Districts wind up at 233!
Barrett snares 3, Blignaut and Streak pick 2 each!

Well, the Northern Districts innings have come to an end at 233. A rather appalling batting collapse here as the last 6 wickets capitulated for 43 runs. Gary Barrett, the debutant seamer was the destroyer in chief picking up 3 wickets including the prized scalp of the Northern's skipper Scott Styris. Blignaut and Heath Streak managed 2 wickets each while Nkala and Hondo too managed to get their names in the wickets column.

The last man in West, did his best to prop up the score. He hit a vicious cut over backward point of Blignaut, but then inside edged a beautiful seamer and the Namibian wicket keeper Karg dived brilliantly to catch the ball and end the Northern's innings.

Lunch Time Show!

Ravi Shastri: Welcome back! This game has been a good entertainer so far! A green top assisting bowlers, unintimidated batsmen and fired up bowlers! Great start by Northern Districts only to lose it all in the end!

Ian Smith: Very good start by the Northerns. Infact they were 4/190 at one stage and threatening to post something close to 260 ~ 270, but it was some good sharp seam bowling by the Mashonaland bowlers.

Ian Bishop: indeed! Also very good captaincy by Heath Streak. He made the correct bowling and fielding changes. Led by example.

Ravi Shastri: yes! That is well personified by the lack of any significant partnership between the batsmen. Whenever two batsmen started to string a meaningful partnership, Heath Streak and his men made sure to break that. This leaves the match pretty much in the balance now.

Ian Smith: Lets take a look at the score card!

Ravi Shastri: Lets talk about the Northern Districts batting. One name stands out - Scott Styris. He played a responsible captain's knock, laced with some powerful shots. He did get some support early on, but there after it was all way spiralling down!

Ian Bishop: The Marshalls were putting on good resistance and one could hope for a better total if Hamish Marshall had not tried to take on Nkala's throw!

Ian Smith: Yes, also Kelly played a brief but exciting knock. Streak was magnificient in his come back spell.

Ravi Shastri: Staying with Streak, he really showed us what Midas touch is. Every bowling change yielded Mashonaland wickets. Also his field placements were astute.

Ian Bishop: Yes Ravi, one thing that stood out was even though the Northern Districts were going at 6 an over, he kept an attacking field set. That exerted the pressure on batsmen all the time.

Ian Smith: Coming to the bowling department, Blignaut was easily the best out there. He tested every batsmen with his probing line.

Ravi Shastri: Superb performance. Also young Barrett showed real good promise towards the end. He operated well with the old and scuffed up ball. Superb deliveries to get rid of Robbie Hart and Styris. Great new talent for Zimbabwe and Mashonaland.

Ian Smith: Indeed! Lets head for the lunch break. We will join you in half an hour for the Mashonaland chase. They require 234 runs in 45 overs at 5.2 runs an over. Stiff target on a green top, but you never know!

Ian Bishop: My money is on the Northerns!

Ravi Shastri: My gut feeling says Mashonaland.So tune in 30 minutes to find out.

Sinhalese C.C win by 21 runs.

Kaushal Lokuarachi was the destroyer in chief as he picked 3 wickets to facilitate the Sinhalese victory over the Rawalpindi Rams. Raheel Majid scored a painstaking 41 off 105 balls. For SInhalese their pace bowling sensation Lasith Malinga bowled 9 overs of red hot pace. Though he went wicketless, his was the spell that was the difference between the two teams. Jawad Hameed was named man of the match for his 5 wickets.

Its a good story considering the game, but it doesnt really match up to the stories of today, such as Suren's, Gamer's, Gamer and Trevas etc. Still pretty good though.
