I like the car, but would probably not buy it. I'm happy with my Swift, and Nano doesn't offer anything that will compel me to switch cars.

Yeah, it is the best solution for people who're on the lookout for a 1st car, or a new car for their Kids. Typically, What I feel, people will migrate from scooters to nano over a period of time.

Can anyone actually make out anything KBC ever says? =/ I'm sure I've said this before, stick to the graphics KBC ;)

There's one!!!! Me!!:p

He means in cities of India, there is a lot of traffic. You hardly are able to drive above 80km/hr. So for a country with so much traffic, this car is'nt bias as it can easly provide this speed.

Though it might breakdown a lot quicker than a normal car but still its so cheap that it doesn't matter. It comes with a warranty of 18 months. If it lasts till three years, which I think it should, its worth its value.

Even if it breaks down its not a worry because its only worth 1 lakh rupees (2000 US $)

Thanks to pranav, now got it dan? That's the reason i was referring tom to india.

Suzuki Swift right? Not bad, Abhas ;)

I dunno, most people's first cars (here at least) are things like Clio's, Punto's, Fiesta's. They are a lot safer as well (considering they are bigger) so you are more likely to come out of a crash alive. It comes down to whether you are willing to put money ahead of safety. I know I wouldn't be too pleased if my first car was that thing. You aren't going to get the ladies with that ;)

This might help you in understanding it better? ;

Tata 'NANO' - The People's Car from Tata Motors

I'm looking at it's comparison sheet to other Indian cars. Cars are allowed in India without fog lights? Wow, Body Colored Door Handles and a heater, top of the range stuff here :p Just noticed it only carries 15 litres of fuel. You would forever be at the petrol station, so it is pretty un-environmental. Basically at the moment all it has going for it, is a cheap price tag.

EDIT - The more I read this, the better it gets. Laminated windscreen. There I was thinking they would have got a bit of glass from a greenhouse... It's actually very interesting that site, a lot of stuff is missing (do they have safety ratings in India, as it doesn't appear to have one, although I might have missed it)

Jaguars really aren't that reliable (though that has nothing to do with Tata, just the way they are) Another point. Tata is a horrific name for a car company, sounds more like a Tea company :p

Jaguar's are sweet though. ;) So classy.

It might sound odd to you Tom, but the concept of personal cars is still catching up in India. Here we have a "family" car, which is used by everyone in the family. Very few people have truely personal cars.
Considering this factor, while choosing a car a holistic picture needs to be taken. It should suit all the people in the family rather than just a single head.
Nano will be a breakaway success. It would ride high on the hype, and eventually the goodwill of the company will take over. TATA has a great brand equity, not only in India, but all over the world.
As long as the car is what it promises, I see no reason why it should fail. I have a feeling it might go overseas as well if it manages to clear the safety and emission norms.

Aye! That's the one. Beast I tell you :D

Yeah, I suppose I am going by Western standards, where nearly everyone has a car. I must say I do find it a bit worrying that things like emissions appear to have been ignored as everyone here is making a conscience effort to keep cars as "green" as possible, yet it will be pretty pointless if there are millions of cars out in Asia, just completely cancelling it out. Then again that is a completely different topic, the ethics of whether certain cars should be allowed.
