Top 5 Teams

It's difficult to accurately gauge the short term in Test cricket, because that means comparing teams that have done a lot of touring with teams that haven't.

Top 5 ODI Based On My Rankings

Australia
India
South Africa
Srilanka
Pakistan

I was thinking about this in the bath just now (it's a place where I think about all the important parts of my life ;)) In the sub-continent there is no denying the top test team is India, however, anywhere else in the world there is very little to choose between Aus, SA, Eng or India, which is pretty damn good cause it means test cricket is going into a very exciting stage where when any of the top 4 meet, anyone of them has an equal chance of winning.

England looked to be pretty ordinary the last time we faced you guys. But I guess much has changed since then, and the Pommies have got a new life after the Ashes victory. When is the next India-England series coming up? Will indeed be an intriguing contest.

BTW, this is the first time I saw some "optimism" from an English member. :p

I'm naturally an optimist so that is probably rearing it's head :p I dunno when India is next playing England in the tests, but I hope it is soon. After the Ashes, that is the series I most want us to win.

Rankings

No need to discuss this topic because icc rankings calculation considers all fact like home wins and away win recordsand if we go with much recent form then these are rankings ...

TEST-
1.India(GOING UP)
2.England(Going to challenge india for top spot)
3.Sri Lanka(deserves number 3 with current balanced bowling attack)
4.Australia(current squd good only outside subcontinent in tests now)
5.SAfrica(recent record isnt great in odis as well as tests)

ODI-
1.Australia(average batting+super fast bowling+excellent filding side)
2.India(best inform batting +average bowling+poor filding)
3.England(good batting lineup+good bowling lineup+good fielders)
4.Sri Lanka(average batting+variety in bowling+good fielding)
5.SAFRICA(Good depth in batting+average 1 dimensional bowling+good fielding)

weaknesses-
india-poor fileding
australia-poor spin attack
Safrica-very talented side but not when under pressure
sri lanka-away record
england-good team but need to keep consistency

4.Australia(current squd good only outside subcontinent in tests now)

How can you say this, seeing as we've only played tests in India? And, I'm sure if we can dominate an ODI series with our 3rd string side we can be competitive in a test series with our full strength team, 2008 apart.

1. India
2= SA, England, Australia
5. SL

Isn't much separating the top 4, how England go when they tour Australia will split the bunch. India still need to do some touring to really establish a lead as they are just on top. SL are the same and haven't done enough for me to be above the teams I put in 2nd.

Tests
1. India, South Africa, England
4. Australia
5. Sri Lanka

ODIs
1. India
2. Australia
3. South Africa
4. England
5. Sri Lanka

Test
1. South Africa
2. India
3. Australia
4. Sri Lanka
5. England

ODI
1. Australia
2. New Zealand
3. South Africa
4. India
5. Pakistan

I'm no one to decide the rankings and don't really bother about them. But @above user-Do you think seeing the current form of South Africa, they are number 1?And,same with India in ODIs at 4?They are better than that. What is New Zealand doing at number 2 in ODIs?Much biased there,I should say.

India don't really have that much in terms of bowling, they are down at four in the ODI's as they are favoring a younger not so good crop of players in that form.

SA are the most balanced team, good batting line-up, and world class bowlers. Yes they having a bad series, but think they have the best player's.

NZ are easily one of the best one-day teams in the world. We have one of the best opening pairs, followed by Guptill, Taylor and Elliot who all have world class records. Our bowling line-up I would rate the best in the world with Mills, Bond and Vettori, all in the top few one-day bowlers.

If I was being bias I would have NZ in the top five test teams, which i know they are not. But I do think they are the second best one-day team...

Openers may be good but aren't one of the best.I personally like Taylor and Elliot, but I can hardly remember any world-class records of the two.Guptill is nowhere near good especially in ODIs as he can't seem to build up his innings. The current NZ side imo isn't the number 2 material.

I agree here.NZ do have some good bowlers, but they aren't consistent barring Vettori and Mills maybe.

Guptill made the 4th highest score on ODI debut, he was named in the 2009 world ODI team.

Shane Bond, Jacob Oram, Daryl Tuffey...

The current NZ side imo isn't the number 2 material.

That's alright, we'll agree to disagree.
