Tour match thread -Scotland v Australia Aug 28

LOL!!! We are screwed for the Ashes!! Enjoy that little urn you Englishmen, I'll make it my duty Watson wont play in the Ashes next series so unfortunately we will need to take it back next time around.

Jake - I suggested dropping a batsman because a straight swap with Watson in for Johnson will leave the bowling a bit frail, and Johnson for Clark leaves the tail a bit thin.

Johnson's total figures read 18.1 - 1 - 107 - 1. And McDonald took 4 for 15. Clark got a couple of wickets and Watson bowled 15 overs in all for 3 wickets.

Johnson has to go. Who comes in? Keep Clark and risk a weaker tail?

You lot could play Stevie Wonder and he'd still be better than our latest call up so I wouldn't worry.

McDonald certainly impressed even if it was a very poor side. Johnson again looked the worst of our bowlers, its going to be a real risk picking him now.

Based on the performances in this match, Watson and Clark really should play. Maybe McDonald as well, but I don't think that Australia will play with two allrounders.

I would choose Mcdonald over Watson Tbh, he managed to take 4 wickets and also scored some runs. He could be useful in lower order.

If the Australian coach is being an idiot and wants to keep Johnson in the team, I guess they have to get rid of Siddle then.

I dunno, maybe that's a better move than it sounds. Siddle hasn't really done much and isn't bowling very tight, in fact he seems to be straddling between outright aggression and patient accuracy. If Johnson was bowling well, even just bowling well and getting no wickets, I think there'd be more scrutiny on Siddle's spot.

Siddle's actually aggressive, Mitch just looks at the batsman with those big puppy-dog eyes when he gets hit for a boundary. If Siddle had some consistency up the other end (which Clark would do), then he would stop trying to swing it both ways while cutting it into the batsman with a yorker at 95 mph AND reversing it.

Australia wins congrats mcdonald 4 great work batting and bowling they are back.:hpraise

I suppose it's another instant of your strength also being your weakness. Siddle, at his best, can do both but when he's not bowling so well he can end up doing neither.

I wouldn't worry too much about Siddle TBH. Johnson has put him and the other bowlers under pressure a lot more, certianly at Lord's.

I hope not.

Clark should be playing the third Test regardless of his result in the tour match, unless obviously he was smacked for 100 off 15 overs and went wicketless in each innings or something similarly poor.

This is precisely what I don't want to happen. Siddle's aggression aside, he has still been bowling better than Johnson. Plus, add in Siddle's fire and aggression, and he is what we need. We are trying to save the series from 1-0 down after 2 games, we can't be having Johnson there bowling terrible, releasing the pressure, and not even getting in the batsman's face, not even having a word, not even show some aggression.
