TV Series General Discussion

Wheel of Time season 2 so far is much, much better so far. It’s shocking that they served up that tripe in the first season when they were capable of this.

Just finished the fourth episode today and it was the weakest of them all so far and it’s still much better than whatever was released last season.

Can’t remember a series salvaging itself in this manner in recent times.

The MayFair Set (1999) about arm sales/Saudi/Gambling laws/casino/corruption (Highly highly recommended)

This was perhaps the weakest of all the episodes in this season of Wheel of Time and even that seems to be a subjective opinion as many have liked it immensely.

If the show ends on a strong note next week it’ll be a big turnaround from what it was last time. It would also be fully deserved since the show has been quality this time around and everyone involved has been nothing short of excellent for the most part.

A double episode today as Wheel of Time wraps up and Loki finally begins.

WoT - the second season overall has been much better but I’m sure that’s already been repeated by me multiple times. Gotta say that this episode also wasn’t my favourite due to several inconsistencies but it had some really strong character moments that I loved. Looking back though I wish this finale was handled a bit better… it feels like the strong moments were all directly taken from the source material while the weaker ones or inconsistencies where because they chose to deviate from it.

I will say that this show should be Amazon’s premier high fantasy show going forward, there are several fantasy elements in this series that most fantasy shows shy away from numerous reasons and now that it’s got a good collection of actors and backroom staff… this show deserves more backing and marketing.

Loki - Tom and Owen’s chemistry is utterly amazing, I wish they two did a movie or two together because they have a really good vibe with each other. I feel like the premise and scope of this season is lesser than the last one based off the first episode but these are early days to judge it as there was no way one would have known that the next big MCU villain’s first appearance would have been in Loki S1 at the start of it. Nothing extraordinary in this episode but it felt decent and enjoyable enough, anyone looking to this as a sign of the MCU going back to where it once was will be disappointed though. Not that it should either, this is a TV show after all.

Finished season 2 of Foundation. It's not the greatest show but it's always interesting. Reminds me Raised By Wolves in that way. Lee Pace, Terrence Mann, Laura Birn and obviously Jared Harris are all great. Really liked Ben Daniels as Bel Riose and Isabella Laughland and Kulvinder Ghir as the clerics. It is still the best looking show I've ever seen incredible.

Heard it was better than the first season although not by much. Was that the case?

Think I preferred the first myself. I wasn't as desperate to watch the next episode, although that might just have been not wanting to completely binge it (I waited until it had finished to start).

It's certainly not a drop in quality and I think I'd probably have enjoyed it more if I had watched it over a weekend instead of spread out.

If you think the first season is more watchable then I’m defo giving this one a skip because I found one half of it utterly horrendous.

What I found most interesting is the world building, the story less so which is a problem. The cast is mostly excellent and often elevate it. The lesser actors really stick out.

To be honest, it's worth it just for Lee Pace being an absolute bastard.

It’s a similar problem in Wheel of Time. The world they build is very interesting (it’s actual fantasy instead of our medieval world with a couple of creatures thrown in type of fantasy), some of the actors are really good (Natasha O’Keefe and Fares Fares were extraordinarily good for instance) but suffers from some of the story beats being changed from the books not landing properly, a few of the lesser actors being very noticeable.

Loki Season 2 so far,

Episode 1 - Wooooohhhh
Episode 2 - I mean it's alright tbh
Episode 3 - Mehhhh

Definitely waiting for an explosion to happen ahead. Till now it was decent, but not upto Season 1's mark.

I'm surprised no one else has talked about it till now.

They've definitely scaled back the show's importance to the overall plot.
