@ Howsie: Domestic tournament comprising of "real" teams? There was one, actually. Before the IPL started. But the BCCI stopped it after the IPL was born. Mainly because it wasn't fetching enough crowd. And, how many T-20 tournaments do you expect the crowd to digest?

Fair enough, I was just wondering. I just feel this tournament is a bit of a sham when you have three teams that have millions of dollars to spend and the rest with pretty much nothing.

Its only the beginning........wait a few years and all the teams will be earning millions and have star studded players.

Doubt it, I can't see any New Zealand domestic teams making that sort of cash.

Obviously not every teams gonna have the wealth to buy who they want, I think s its going to be similar to EPL or NBA where there is always the dominant teams and the lesser teams keep fighting on....

The T20 fever coming back in October :D

We should not under-estimate othe teams from Australia, England etc, As T20 known for it's fast nail bitting finishing with complete entertainment this would really be a successful league.

Looking forward to this and hope Deccan Charges get this one.

Teams from Australia can have foreign players but IPL teams cant because this forum members dont like IPL. :laugh

Yeah I forgot, Australian domestic teams are paying the likes of Chris Gayle and Ajantha Mendis upwards of one million dollars :sarcasm Gayle's being paid something like 50,000 to play for WA. It's a joke of a tournament because you have three teams that are backed with millions of dollars, and the rest have nothing pretty much.

An IPL franchise would spend about 5-10 million on it's players. Compare that to a team like Otago or T&T who spend about 100-200,000. Massive gap, it's nothing like the NBA

Well if they became a franchise like the IPL teams, they too could become rich!!

I agree as its not fully like the NBA where its salary caps and contracts etc.. but smaller teams like Otago and T&T have to grind it out and gain respect from other teams and audience and maybe their sponsors might start jacking up their income and so on.......

I'm pretty sure Otago use contracts :laugh

But I actually agree with what your saying about picking up future sponsors. Hopefully if that did happen it wouldn't only be for the Champions League.

And yet they let their star payer McCullum play for two other teams at the same time? KKR NSW and Otago. Thats one hell of a contract he must have signed? ;)

They stand to make up to 400,000 for letting him play for NSW. Why wouldn't they let him go and play for them, that's a massive pay day.

See I dont like giving compensation to his home team every time he plays for another team! The team who plays him should simply buy his rights from his home team and give a one-off compensation fee, this means that he cant play for any other team which is much more logical.......................

I don't have much faith in them but c'mon Otago Volts, shame pakistan can't have a team in it.

It seems Otago has security concerns and might not send the team over, just heard it on sports tonight.
