Twenty20 World XI's - Asia, ROW, World XI

Vettori is a good container not as aggressive in T20 as Ajmal is and that can easily be back by stats.

Player |Mat |Inns |Balls |Runs |Wkts |BBI | BBM| Ave| Econ| SR| 4w| 5w| 10
Daniel Vettori|28| 28| 649| 580| 35| 4/20| 4/20| 16.57| 5.36| 18.5| 1| 0| 0
Saeed Ajmal|22| 22| 503| 528| 35| 4/19| 4/19| 15.08| 6.29| 14.3| 2| 0| 0

Going by those stats Id pick Vettori for the batting ability, Ajmal seems to take more wickets, but not a significant amount.

Why good teams still need batsman when they already have batting at no 9 or 8. Marginally economical isn't a very good reason to pick Vettori. Taking wickets is the best way to slow down run rate plus Ajmal has fear of doosra which always keep batsman on his toes while Vettori is sort of bowler who will bowl 4 overs giving around 20 runs and that's it.

Vettori's batting and captaincy make him much more tempting than Ajmal.

Hmmm, the doosra is probably the X factor. I guess it depends on how much batting there is in the team. Ajmal does have a vicious doosra, damn I can't decide between the two!

Economical bowling creates pressure on the batsmen, which forces them to play stupid shots against other bowlers. If you have Vettori + another aggressive spinner, that would be a good combination though.

Well if a team is really in need of an allrounder then Vettori is their only choice but since most of the teams always went for a specialist bowler at no 9,10,11 so Ajmal is ultimate choice.

Look at Vettori career summary(T20), He isn't as effective as Ajmal is against top batting teams like SA,Australia etc and the only reason is, Ajmal is more aggressive, whenever he bowl he looked to pick wickets.

It's almost a whole run per over, that is very large In my View

And what about less number of matches(6) and same wickets, better average, better strike rate?

6 matches ago, Vettori had 33 wickets at 14.63, E/R of 5.35 and strike rate of 16.3

It doesn't about past its about present. By your mean I can say 10 years ago Pakistan had a very strong batting lineup.

What's wrong with comparing their records after the same number of matches?

Yeah.... I saw that when I first looked. Good batting ability makes up for those other 'slights' you mentioned IMO. And 1 run better Economy is massive in T20. I'd rather have Daniel Vettori you'd rather have Seed Ajmal. :)

At the end of the day Ajmal's strike rate of 14.3 is still only good enough on average to pick up one wicket during a four over spell, just like Vettori, Swann and Harbhajan. You can argue to the cows come home who the better spinner is but their is no denying that Vettori, Swann and to a lesser extent Harbhajan provide far more to a team then Ajmal does.

My Pacific XI:
(non bias - 4 NZ & 7 OZ)

1. Dave Warner
2. Brendon McCullum (wk)
3. Shane Watson (^)
4. Ross Taylor
5. Cam White
6. Mike Hussey
7 (???). Nathan McCullum/Scott Styris (^)
8. Daniel Vettori (c) (^)
9. Mitch Johnson (^)
10. Dirk Nannes (^)
11. Shaun Tait (^)

I wanted to fit another Kiwi in there, but really it's too hard. :o

Southee instead of Nannes or Tait? Or Ryder instead of Warner?

Why Asia v ROW. ICC should create 3 teams; Asia+Africa, The Z's, Carribean+Euro (+ if there is any good players from South+North America)

that'd be a full house event.
