Warm-Up Matches

Do we ever win our warm-up games, I can't remember the last time we did. I wouldn't read much into the result, if we had of scored another 30-40 we would of easily won. (Something we would of been able to achieve with a normal batting line-up, Hopkins at six :facepalm)

Here is the result of one match:

New Zealand 237 (46.1 ov)
Warriors 239/8 (48.5 ov)

Warriors won by 2 wickets (with 7 balls remaining)

Not a great warm-up of New Zealand. But they weren't playing with some star players.

Kamran Akmal hit a quickfire fifty for Pakistan. They are currently at 189-4 after 38.4 overs, so they need to start getting some quick runs.

South Africa is looking towards a big score. They are at 256-3 and have 12 overs left. Smith and Kallis both missed out on their centuries.

Pakistan have two warmups while India has just one? Oops... That doesnt sound too good. Pak get more games in conditions where they will play the actual tournament whereas India have played most of their recent games in conditions which are entirely different to that of the upcoming tournament. We have to absolutely beat Pakistan. If we lose to them, our campaign will suffer a huge bolt because beating Australia is not easy in their current form and we got to beat one of Pakistan or Australia along with WI and have a good run rate to reach semis.

After 40 overs Pakistan were 198-4. After 50 overs they are 306-8. It is a great effort, but in the final overs two wickets fell and only 6 runs were scored.

South Africa scored 388-4 after their 50 overs and it most likely that they will win that match against West Indies.

It's a shame that WI are taking part in this tournament. Bangladesh would have at least restricted SA to 340 max.

Hope they get to 150 at least against the world's best bowling attack.

Why did Misbah Ul Haq opening the bowling? Are Pakistan trying to unearth a mystery bowler here:laugh

Nah I think it was a mistake by the Cricinfo commentators. They even replaced JP Duminy with some other guy who played in 1930's.

Mendis certainly seems to be circling the drain a bit, but I'm sure the Sri Lankans will be aware of a potential ace in the hand. It was often said that Gleeson and Iverson were more suited to green pitches. In South Africa at this time of year, they could well encounter an under-prepared surface that actually suits a bowler like Mendis.

If Windies can't beat the Cobra's they certainly won't be able to beat an international side.

I found that strange though. They've corrected the mistake now. Naved-ul-Hasan got the wicket.

Told you we'd lose. It was a very B side though. None of the stars. Taylor and Guptill got some good time in the middle. They probably batted more balls to help get in form. Good to see Elliot in the runs too. Bowling-wise the bowlers who are in the frame did well. Diremanti getting injured obviously didn't help. Close game.

I think Bond and Vettori i'd obviously play and probably still Mills over Tuffey. Butler could come out for Tuffey but even though Butler is expensive he takes lots of wickets.

Dam what a knock by Duminy, I knew he could score quick but that ridiculously quick.

Kiwis got a good hit out, their total was never going to be enough in the end though.

SL really have fallen back since their 300 against India. Mendis no longer works against teams hes played against. Pakistan seem to have some good hitters in that lower order now with Akmal and Afridi.

Lol just checked out the warm up results...
New Zealand doing on eof there usul collapses we cant really except much more.
West Indies I dont even have any words for them getting that wasted.
Pakistan looked like they had a good game, Mendis and Thushara had a bit of a shocker...

The only problem with this WI side is that that they can't play spin bowling at all and their bowling attack is pretty lame.

Mills when he's going well is top quality, I wouldn't underestimate him. I definitely think they've got the lineup to be worth risking an expensive bowler, but more if he can buy a quick wicket, not so much if he has to bowl 10 overs to get them. In that sense, especially with the potential for a bit of movement off the seam in South Africa, I'd probably look at someone like Ryder as an important source of quick wickets.

The batting in the squad is a little thin, but the top order just has to fire up. They've got six guys in there who have proven they can make ODI hundreds. That's as many guys as are in the squads for Sri Lanka, India, Australia and South Africa. They might not be as good batsmen, but they should be able to create their share of good innings. Perhaps they need to turn the clock back a bit and not fuss about being able to bring up 300. Just get the innings going first, then worry about the slogging later.
