Was Jacques Kallis the best of his generation? Was he as good as or better than Sobers?

The answer was always the same. There was never any hesitation because it was indisputable, undebatable. Everyone knew the answer much like everyone knows the sky is blue. Everyone, that is, with even the most casual awareness of the game called cricket. The answer was Garfield Sobers. The question? Who is the greatest all-round cricketer of them all?

That was until the blossoming of South Africa's greatest player. Jacques Kallis, who has decided to hang up his helmet after almost 20 years as a stellar performer in international cricket, has conjured up a cricketing miracle by causing many to pause when confronted by the aforementioned enquiry. Mind you, there are still many who consider it blasphemy to have any other name before that of the Barbadian National Hero, but Kallis has racked up such unbelievable numbers over his long career that he demands mention.

Jacques Kallis - The Best Of His Time

-Best allrounder of the modern era
-One of the best batsmen of the game ever and alongside Ponting, Lara, Inzamam the best of the modern era
-Sorry Garfield but Kallis is the best allrounder of the game ever!

I gotta disagree, Sobers was a better batsman, someone who could rip an attack apart and a better bowler too with far more variety.

Kallis is great no doubt but he rarely grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, he liked to play in his own time and with his own pace, he never wanted to be the star, which was and is fine but Sobers could lift a sinking ship, Kalli merely floated it.
