West Coast has been aquired by two rich Australians who became famous due to their work for the Irish Destroyers in Ireland. These two millionares bought out the poor performing West Coast Eagles. Even with their high membership, doping problems and the such cause major problems. The West Coast board basically gave us the club.

In other news, in spite of the new clubs starting soon, the football community lead by Melbourne and Carlton have convinced the AFL that there should a giant draft of all AFL players to make it 100% fair and that coaching skills and spirit will come back into the game rather than the rich clubs dominating the AFL. The salary cap has also been changed according. For the first season there will be no salary cap.

West Coast, lucky enough to get first pick in this new draft have got a major advantage with the picks 1, 17, 33, 49, 65, 81, 97, 113, 129 etc etc.

Hungry Jacks have re-signed as Makor sponsor and are giving extra resources for the up and coming club and have pledged their full support to the new management. 'The Animal Enclousure' with their large resources and money have payed millions upon millions have been successful in their bid for The West Coast Eagles to be the 'The TAE Western Eagles'.

The West Coast Eagles will continue to play at Subiaco Stadium but have agreed due to TAEs wishes to play their first two home games at the MCG.

Other members of the board are Harrison Davidson, representative of Qantas Airlines, the Head of Hungry Jacks, Nick Phelps multi-millionare in the automotive as well as Gambling industries, Adam Gilchrist has signed on due to his new love of AFL and his new found dislike of NSW and Ryan Campbell who got very bored after cricket. New football manager is Brody Taylor and with two coaches there is no assistant coach.

The new management released this statement yesterday 'Don't be alarmed our proud, supportive and loyal members and supporters. Other than the drugs, we will try to keep the culture of WCE going and not just run the club for profit. We would also like to say, due to the re-draft a captain will be named later'.

New Eagles set to fly high
Source:
AFL.com.au
By: Jack Wilson

The West Coast Eagles have started their new season snaring some big names apart of thje brand new AFL venture that has started today. The old AFL fell apart with too many drug scandals, a few sex scandals and Andy D's cross dressing scandal that saw the AFL taken over by private investors and now the new AFL is here to stay.

The Eagles have taken the first step in creating a new dynasty post Ben Cousins and Chris Judd by securing dual Brownlow Medalist and premiership player Adam Goodes with their first pick in the National Draft.

With their 2nd pick the Eagles stole Jonathon Brown, who also brings a lot of premiership experience to the Eagles. We came the Eagles 3rd pick they considered the options and snagged Brent "Boomer" Harvey. The Eagles also welcome back Adam Selwood to the club, and then the surprised Eagles who saw Brendon Fevola still clubless decided to grab him as well.

The shocks kept on coming in the draft, Alan Didak became an Eagle as well, the Eagles are still surprised that they snatched Didak, Fevola, Selwood and Goodes in the draft, as well as sneaking away with Brown.

With no doubt the shocks will keep on coming in this national draft, the Eagles are hoping at least to snag a few more big names before this draft is finally finished.

Game Summary

First Quarter

Dockers 3.5
Eagles 2.4

The Dockers were out of the blocks early they looked to hold the Eagles at bay and try and keep them from scoring, the Eagles with Brent Harvey was helping keep the Eagles drive going. While Ablett and Goodes made sure to keep the forwards of the Dockers from kicking away with it. The Dockers were truly wasteful, they had their chances having 8 shots early on and only managed to sneak 3 of them home. Giansiracusa, Watts, and Tredrea managed to sink goals in the first, while Pendlebury and Johnson scored too. The Eagles were also very wasteful but they had more of the ball then the Dockers did.

Second Quarter
Dockers 6.10
Eagles 6.5

The Dockers again were wasteful in front of goal, struggling to make the Eagles pay which kept the Eagles in the game. There was a couple of times that the Eagles managed to punish the Dockers fully for their misses scoring goals from a Dockers miss. Harvey was again damaging in the 2nd, Pendlesbury also started to get into the game, Harvey scored 2 goals, and he also helped set up others. DelSanto was clearly assisting the Dockers to keep them in this one, but when he got them forward the Dockers forward line failed to convert each chance they were given.

Third Quarter
Eagles 11.8
Dockers 6.11

After Half time the Eagles started to make the Dockers pay for their early missed shots and they started to easily out play the Dockers everywhere. Harvey was even more damaging, Fevola was making his way into the game, and the ruck was starting to be dominated by the Eagles. Everitt even went down the forward line and booted himself a goal, Harvey kicked another 2 goals, he was showing why the Eagles took the gamble on him in the first place. Goodes was good down back, as were the rest of the backline Selwood was starting to dominate down back, Ablett was getting on top, and even Brown was working his way into the game at half forward. Harvey's second goal was a bit of class, Brown marked it 50 metres out, he shot off a handball to Harvey and he made a dash that would have made Phil Manassa proud.

The Dockers only managed the one shot on goal for the quarter and they again wasted it, the Dockers fans even though this was not for any points were clearly displeased with their game to date. Turn overs were hurting them, not even Michael Voss could save the Dockers, once the Eagles started to find the weaknesses of the Dockers it was looking painfil.

Brett Voss lost his cool and gave away a 50 to Selwood, this was a sure sign the Dockers were getting a little rattled. Ben Cousins was quiet in this one, and Ray Hall just had no answers. Dockers Coach Mark Harvey at three quarter time asked for a lft by the Dockers, perhaps he should have asked for a miracle.

Final Quarter
Eagles 16.10.106
Dockers 12.16.88

The speech had obviously done something to the Dockers, they wsre fired up and DelSanto took the ball out of the middle and he hit Darrn Milburn lace out on the chest and that was the first of 3 goals to the Dockers that would revive the Dockers crowd, but when Fevola was hit on the chest by a Scott Pendlebury pass inside 50 took the wind out of the sails of the Dockers. Then when Jonathon Brown took a one handed mark 25 metres out and slotted it the Dockers fans started to sense the game was slipping away, never giving up even when the game seemed over DelSanto clearly the Dockers best drilled a pass into Tredrea who marked and from 30 metres out he gave the Dockers a slight chance of a comeback, but when Murphy goaled for the Eagles, and then a goal by Kennedy the game had lost it's sting and we were playing out time.

There was just 30 seconds to go in the game, the Eagles were in the Dockers backline the ball was passed to Harvey, and instead of holding the ball up Harvey saw his chance of scoring one more goal, so he made a dash through the centre, past the Dockers players there but when he went to kick the siren sounded ending the game, the Eagles had won and they all went to Harvey who had 34 possessions 4 goals, and just had a super game for the Eagles.

The following interview happened after the game written by ILI

Eddie McGuire: Great there game Boomer.

Harvey: Thanks mate.

Eddie McGuire: How is it playing for Eagles?

Harvey: Its definitely weird, playing with so many players I've never played for before. Not many familiar faces.

Eddie McGuire: You're now playing for the club with the most members, feeling the pressure?

Harvey: No its good, I still miss North. That club still means a lot for me and I definitely wouldn't have left if there wasn't a re-draft but it could be worse. Carlton or Essedon could have picked me up.

Eddie McGuire: How are things with the boys. Do they seem happy?

Harvey: Well some of the young guys are still trying to get used to things. I've played Gaelic and played for Australia in combined rules so I am used to this kind of situation.

Eddie McGuire: You're one of the favourites now for the captaincy along with Adam
Goodes. Do you think your ready for captaincy?

Harvey: Well my career is getting closer and closer to its end and I have always wanted to captain a side.

Eddie McGuire: What do you think of The Majestic and Iloveirelands coaching?

Harvey: The Majestic and Iloveireland are very knowledgable about footy and their game plans are a bit confusing but we'll get used to them.

Eddie McGuire: A lot of people think you only won because you got settled quickest, not because your the best team. What have you got to say about that?

Harvey: They won't be saying that when we return with the flag.

Eddie McGuire: Finally, what do you think of Cousins return?

Harvey: It is good for footy and I think a change of club will help him.

Eddie McGuire: Thank you for your time Boomer

Harvey: Anytime mate.

West Coast Eagles 13.10.88

Game Summary

1at Quarter

Kangaroos 7.5
Eagles 3.1

After a ripping win last week at Subi the Eagles travel into Melbourne on cloud nine, which appears where they are when the game start, despite Harvey again racking up the possessions, the Kangaroos forward line lead by Daniel Bradshaw kick away he booted 2 for the quarter with Simon Black, Josh Carr, Ladson, Pettifer and Houilihan all scoring goals. For the Eagles Harvey goaled early as did Johnson and Fevoila. Goodes, Didak and Selwood were also good in this quarter while Scarlett was trying his heart out and not getting much back up down back there, apart from Selwood who was playing a bit loose.

2nd Quarter
Kangaroos 10.8
Eagles 7.3

The Eagles came alive in this quarter, well for some of it, Harvey trying his best to get the Eagles back into this but the Kangaroos just had too many answers, the coaching staff were said to be pleased at half time with Harvey, Goodes, Didak, Selwood and Fevola, while there were signs there were playes that were not pulling their weight and the team were made to pay on the scoreboard because of it. The Eagles looked to be lacking some forward power, despite Fevola goaling there was not much else there for them in this one.

3rd Quarter
Kangaroos 11.13
West Coast 8.5

The Kangaroos showed a signs of blowing the Eagles away in this quarter, bad kicking had kept it close for a lot of the quarter, the Eagles managed only the 3 shots at goal, and they wasted 2 of them and the Roos had wasted a lot of theirs booting too many behinds. By now Bradshaw was on top he had 5, for the Eagles Fev had 4, Harvey 2, and Didak only one. Harvey and Fev were easily standing out for the Eagles, while Bradshaw if he was kicking straight would have been more on top then he was. Black, and Cooney missed easy shots. Dean Laidley was livid at three quarter time, he could be heard in the 10th row and they were in the middle of the ground! He told them he wanted to see them murder the Eagles, he doesn't care that it is not a regular season game he wants to send a message.

The Eagles coach was angry himself but he didn't rant, he wanted them to play pressure football and man up.

Final Quarter
Kangaroos 17.16.118
Eagles 13.10.88

The Kangaroos on top started to kick away and started to gain the early advantage and they wanted to make the Eagles pay. Harvey was the best on ground for the Eagles again, while the Kangaroos won the match and out played the Eagles the importance of this game is minimal. The pre-season matters not for the Eagles it would appear, despite them beating their arch rival last week in Freo. West Coast fans can rejoice in the fact that the Eagles have a few good pick ups, even though they are not gelling well as one would hope, but it's the pre-season. Adam Goodes, Alan Didak, anad Fevola were good, but Brent Harvey was great, he got well over 30 possessions again, and he kicked goals, he played his heart out but the one man army cannot overcome 22 warriors. Or in this case 22 hungry Kangaroos, the scores really does not show the fact that the Eagles were just as good as the Kangaroos on the day, but they could not make them pay where it counted and that was the scoreboard.

The Eagles are now off to play a regional challenge match, the Roos are off into the finals of the Nab Cup, the Eagles are ready to beat whoever they are to face next.

Captain Boomer?
The Western Australian

4/3/ 07

Brent Harvey has come out in public and asked that the captaincy talks at the Eagles stop. All other clubs have chosen the captains by the end of the first week but the Eagles still haven't announced theirs. There have been rumours from our insider that there will be a joint captaincy with perhaps one of the Selwood's and Goodes sharing the captaincy roles. This seems unpopular with the locals who want a Western Australian as captain or someone with International Experience, someone who can cope with the new setting and adapt quickly.

No worries at Eagles: Harding
By
Mic Cullen

West Coast Eagles assistant coach Dave Harding said there is no worries at the club after the loss to the Kangaroos "We ended badly in the game, but it's the pre-season, we are hopeful of a big start to the season." he said after the game yesterday. The Eagles never managed to snatch the lead away from the Roos during the game. But the Eagles feel that losing the pre-season games are not as important as other losses "Do not get me wrong, we hate losing, but this game is not the end of the world." Harding when asked about if the loss meant anything to the Eagles.

While the Eagles might feel losing right now does not matter, it looked a different picture at the Melbourne Cricket Ground for their senior coach IloveIreland who was visually upset about the game "Sure he was angry, but who wouldn't be?" said Harding when asked about the comments during the game by head coach IloveIreland who at times during the game was looking angry and was reading to do his block at the side.

Dean Laidley was also upset during the game, which lead to an outburst that was heard in the crowrd "It was a disgrace" one fan commented "We were there with our kids and the language coming from the coach was just a disgrace" the fan later went on to say. Laidley however did not see a problem and believes that a club should care about loses regardless of when they are "The Eagles should be worried, if they cannot win in the pre-season, surely that is going to be a problem to fans?" Laidley said at a press conferance after hearing the comments of Dave Harding.

"We played some kids, so we are not worried, Laidley has a point but we are not worried." said Harding after he was told about Laidley's comments, one would feel that the loss hurt more then they are letting on. More bad news out of that game was the report to David Hille, and suspension for 2 games he will be missing for the first 2 games of the new season while he may have been sent to the WAFL to play so it might not become a big blow for the Eagles.

It is beleived the Eagles are going to play a one off game against a WAFL club during the week, and will play a game against a VFL club, it is likely that East Perth will be playing the Eagles at Subiaco while the Eagles are awaiting confirmation by the VFL as to who will be allowed to play them in the coming weeks. All we can report is that Thursday the Eagles will be playing a WAFL team, and Sunday they are playing another game at regional ground.

Game Summary

1st Quarter
Swans 3.0
Eagles 5.4

The Eagles started the better with Harvey again playing well, Lovett and Everiett were looking good early Nick Stevens started getting the ball later in the quarter which lead to a small run on by the Swans. Schnieder, Davey and Hale all getting quick goals before the second goal by Andrew Lovett would stready the tied. Shane Crawford managed to bring the Swans into the middle of the ground but there was no score this time, the siren would sound with Didak with the ball in the middle of the ground.

2nd Quarter
Swans 5.1
Eagles 6.8

This was a better quarter for the Swans, they managed to boot home 2 goals Pearce getting a very early one, this was more about a good defence then a better forward line. When the Eagles went forward they wasted their chances scoring 4 behinds for the quarter where as the Swans would score 2 goals 1 in this quarter. Adam Goodes started to get more of the ball, as did Rawlings and Jonathon Brown. Brendon Fevola managed to snag a goal, Lovett was the leading goal scorer for the Eagles having 2 the Swans had all single goal kickers.

3rd Quarter
Swans 6.4.40
Eagles 11.11.77

The Eagles started to dominate the game in this quarter, out scoring and just out playing the Swans Goodes got more of the ball. Harvey is just a ball magnet for the Eagles wherever he is on the field he managed to grab the ball and he drive it forward firstly setting up Didak to slot home his second. Scott Pendlebury managed to slot his first goal of the game. Travis Boak managed to get himself a goal in this quarter, Aaron Davey was the only one to score for the Swans in a quarter that saw the Eagles score 5-3 to the Swans 1-3. The Swans can tyhink thsmselves unlucky David Hale missed an easy shot on goal, and Adam Schneider missed one on an angle 32 metres from goal. When the siren sounded Paul Roos stormed out to meet his team and he gave them a mouthful he was anger and he made every player realise that he was not happy with the way the game had suddenly start to get away from the Swans.

4th Quarter
Swans 7.5.47
Eagles 15.13.103

The Swans were out played again here in the final quarter, Didak started getting more of the ball and he ended up with 3 goals, Goodes also finished with 2, as well as Fevola. The Swans could not manage to find anyone that could goal for them and they spread it around where as the Eagles had more chances and converted them for the win. Paul Roos was upset throughout the final quarter and he was livid once the final siren sounded. After the game he left the team in a private room and tore into them.
