West Indies Tour of Australia 2010

Sure 7 players out is a massive blow but I wouldn't say any of the players who are in for them are of international quality. Even if they only had 1-2 players out I would suggest whoever was bought in would be a weak link, just now they have a number of weak links.

Sure they are weak links but do you think the 2 players would feel as much pressure if Sarwan and Chanderpaul were in the middle order.

Just take out Simmons and Dowlin and add Chanders and Ronnie and there is already a huge difference.

Definitely true. They have been thrown into probably the toughest situation in international cricket, an away series in Australia who are in red hot form with that many players out is going to end badly for even the best teams in the world.

The one thing it does offer however is someone the chance to step up and show they are a quality player, that hasn't happened and you would expect a little better than 4/24 at international level

WI depth has been a problem for 15 years. When guys like Sherwin Campbell and Stuart Williams replaced Haynes and Greendige it just looked terrible. Chanders came in 94 and booked his spot. Then Robert Samuels came and failed, then the debacle in 99 vs Australia with new players coming in every test almost, and hopeless ones at that. Hooper came back and steadied things as captain, but they always relied heavily on Hooper, Chanders and Lara, then Gayle and Chanders. Their fast bowlers since Walsh And Amby retired have barely managed to play full series without being injured. Its not a recent thing to have people mentioning the lack of depth, its been a problem since the middle of Viv's captaincy, but really came to light in a big way in the 90's. Whats being done about it?? From all reports, not bloody much. But what can be done?

And all the kids over there are playing basketball instead... :facepalm

Nothing has been done that's why things are the way they are. Just when things were looking up a year ago the strike came along and messed everything up. There have been talks of academies being set up but its been 3 years since that was said and nothing came of it.

Really? You seen that with your own eyes? Whats the problem with that? Dont kids in Australia play different sports, kids in England play soccer, whats the problem with that.

West Indies always have good youth teams. They were in the finals when the Under 19 WC was in Bangladesh (2004 I think), Ramdin was the captain. This year they finished 3rd, ahead of India, South Africa, England and Sri Lanka. The talent is there but it just gets lost in the process. Thats where Academies and proper coaching comes in.

Ive got a ABC Cricket mag from 1987 where it mentions the next crop of WI players, and Clive Lloyd mentions even back then about Basketball's influence, I think that its a line thats all too easily used as an excuse.

It is used as an excuse, there was a interview on cricinfo not too long ago. It had Sobers, Hall, Richardson and one other player cant remember who it was and they all said that its just an excuse. There is still plenty enough kids playing cricket, way more then basketball.

LOL how long did that decision take...

Gayle sure is becoming Bollinger's bunny, and excellent bowling once again by the Rug. Lol at Billy, he walked away, 8s later hes given out.

The lack of experience here is killing them. These younger batsmen look a bit uncomfortable on bouncy, swinging surfaces.

IS THAT ONE OUT? No.

And Chris Fayle hasn't really done too much.

tweaking ████ umpiring there. Denied Hauritz a wicket. This umpiring hasn't been great in the last 2 or 3 over's.

LOL 1st Billy taking too long then gave the correct decision, the Oxfag doesn't give out the plumb-est out you will ever see.

what does plumb mean anyway?

lol fixing pipes in general terms, dead in front in cricket.

Plumb, a carpentry term meaning a line which is exactly vertical, or perpendicular to a level horizontal line

Plumb, in cricket refers to Leg before wicket dismissal when it looks as an obvious LBW

Just the 2 you want out there to lead a recovery :noway
