Not entirely sure but if you continue to play the big shots all the time then you will become fatigued which leads to an increased risk of getting edges and obviously you'll be slower running between the wickets.

No way to change that in the game.

Edit the player in the Academy beforehand , and he will be shown as such in every game he is involved in.
