How good will Vista be?

As usual, will listen to reviews abt it before I buy.

Its best to buy it quite late after it releases in the market. Thereby you increase your chances of buying it after patches and/or fixes have been released for the OS

I have been testing Windows Vista Beta versions for quite a while now. It is very good to say the least. UI has improved alot. The security in Vista takes giant strides as compare to XP sp2. There are still bugs in it but they are to be expected as it is still in its Beta stages. Vista will be available in both 32bit as well as 64bit plateforms. Windows Vista is expected to hit stores in January 2007.

btw Official Windows Vista hardware requirements from microsoft are here:

If you need any more information regarding Vista or its screenshots etc. dont hesitate to ask me here.

I just wanted to see more screenshots :p

I hope they fix up their IE broswer, IE 7 doesn't look that great. It's missing the usual file, edit, view menu. Oh well Firefox will be around to save us.

And yea I can't wait to get Directx10. Game graphics will be through the roof.

Here you go. Some screens from Vista Beta Build5342 screenshots:

I have converted these files to jpg format to reduce their size so because of this the quality of these screen isnt great. If you want i can post them in high quality bitmap format too.

I'll buy it straight-away for my partner as last week we purchased a Laptop for her as a gift for an acheivement. Btw the Laptop is an Intel Duo Core TM2400 1.83 Ghz with 1 GB of DDR2 667 Mhz RAM and Radeon X1400 256 MB graphic card. Will run Vista pants down, Pretty Slick!!!

For that Desktop - http://img277.imageshack.us/img277/4649/desktop1up.jpg does the pop out calculator, recycle bin actually appear like that or did you get one of those programs to do that.

In the screenshot above, the panel on the right hand side is known as Windows sidebar. Windows sidebar consists of gadgets(easy-to-use customizable mini-applications). The gadgets(calculator, timer, clock etc,) you see in this screenshot are windows default gadgets. You can download thousands of other gadgets for Windows sidebar from microsoft website for free. Windows sidebar is started automatically by default when Windows is started, but of coarse if you don?t want it you can always disable it.

Wow never knew there was that. That's very similar to the widgets thing I've got. Looks pretty cool, I'll definitely be looking forward to trying that thing out.

Its already available for Win Xp. I had it for a month or two but got bored from it. Also eats up your RAM.

Yes this notebook of yours should run vista without any problems. Radeon Mobility X1400 supports aero glass so no problems there too. The only concern for me would be that 1GB Ram chip. I am running vista on my desktop PC PentiumIV 2.8 with 1GB Ram and vista doesnt run as fast as I would like it to run. It eats up alot of memory, something like 650mb without any extra application running. But Microsoft has stated that Beta versions of vista are not optimized so i'll expect them to run pick up some speed once they r optimized. I am not saying that 1GB could be a serious concern for you but if I can go with 2GB chip for vista i'll go for it.
I am planning to get a notebook for myself before my university starts. Intel Duo Core seems to be a perfect choice as they are very good for multi tasking.

Here is what i am going to get:
Intel Duo processor T2500 2GHz
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 533Mhz
80GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
Intel? Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (Intel GMA9 because im not buying this notebook for gaming & because it supports aero glass.)

Yup although it will be an expensive buy in Pakistan unless you are based elsewhere. Also I plan to upgrage my memory next year to 2 Gb. And the Laptop is basically for my parner. I'll be building a kick-ass quad-SLI gaming rig for myself once I get a job :upray
