I'd have honestly preferred for Kolkata and Chennai to have gotten franchisees as opposed to Lucknow and Ahmedabad. Both are far bigger in terms of rich cricketing history.

Alternatively, the BCCI should have demarcated the below as an ode to some of their greatest women captains

Mumbai -Diana Edulji
Pune - Shubhangi Kulkarni
Hyderabad -Mithali Raj
Kolkata - Jhulan Goswami
Chennai -Shanta Rangaswamy

Post this,they could have also allotted a prime icon to each team like they did for the men's edition. A person like Raj could have played in the current edition had they had a specific role and team like Hyderabad for her.

Politics, my friend. UP & Gujarat are the trump card for current ruling govt. They'll ask for votes in the name of Women equality in these states.
