I can't believe these professional atheletes of today. Miss 3 weeks of the biggest cricket tournament in the world just for the birth of your child? Honestly, 3 weeks!? Sure, see the birth and get your arse on a plane to the WI. Harden up Gilly!
Sounds really baffling to me.
One week should be enough.

If you remember, Tendulkar flew back to England and turned up for India in the 1999 WC when his father died during one of the earlier games.

Will the World Cup warm-up games be considered to be official ODIs ?
They won't, though the tri-series between Bangladesh, Bermuda and Canada in Antigua just before the warm up games will be official ODIs.

I've just looked at the poll. Seems that according to PC, Lanka have less chances of winning the WC than Bangla :p

South Africa and Sri Lanka combined have only 12 votes

It's obvious to see that bias, or should I say nationalism has a large part to do with it.

Obviously, otherwise how else would England have the third most votes :p

Clearly a gornski poll given SA should be heading into this WC as favourites. The poll should be titled who do you support :)

I think it went wrong when it was changed.. I swear I didn't vote for NZ.

Shows how knowldgeable our members are :p .
My favorites are SA for sure.
Their batting looks settled and their bowling attack is the best in the world (minus a spinner).
What could go against them is the sameness of their bowling attack on flat tracks where they really miss a spinner.
We saw their fast bowling attack really looking incomplete against India in the Cape Town test on the first day or for that matter the Durban ODI against Pakistan where they conceded 350+ .

I do feel that one of the 3 sub-continnetal sides will reach the finals , like the last 4 World Cup finals (1992- Pakistan v England,1996 - Srilanka v Aus, 1999 - Pakistan v Aus, 2003 - India v Aus)

My semis lineup is South Africa, West Indies, Australia , Ind/Pak/SRL .

India going into the World Cup as underdogs will actually suit them unlike in the Champions Trophy where they went in as the favorites.

Personally I think South Africa look great on paper, but can choke at crunch moments, and I wonder whether that might kick in during the world cup at some stage. Australia obviously will be there or thereabouts, plus they have a knack for raising their game in those very same crunch moments that the Saffers can struggle in.

Sri Lanka seem to have steely determination under Moody and Jayawardene, so they could produce some big performances when it matters, whilst the rest all have the ability but will need that little bit of luck on the day, and an exceptional performance or two to make it.
